Jeep Liberty CRV Diesel

Seems that the EGR valve on my 2005 4 cyclinder CRV diesel wears out regularly at 65,000 miles and costs $865 to repair/replace. Being used to EGR valves which cost ~$50 to fix, I stood hyperventilating for about five minutes. Does anyone have any thoughts or ideas on how to address this problem?
