I thought he was just going to get the engine running as an exercise in hands on automotive education rather than actually restoring the vehicle. I hope he goes for it, assuming the car is cheap or next to free.
If it has been sitting outside for 10 years it would be good to know where that is. Whether it’s been sitting outside in Arizona or Minnesota makes a big difference. If the latter, just getting it running would not be sufficient; you may have tons of rust issues, including the frame, that would make it dangerous to drive once you did get it running.
There are a number of shows on the Motor Trend network (for example, Fantomworks, Bitchin’ Rides) that often show just how much work is involved in not only getting a car running but making it safe to take on the street.
Texases comment clears the year model up so missed that one.
At least with the 80 there are no ECMs and FI involved so that simplifies it quite a bit. ECMs came along in 1981 but were present in Euro cars and some Asians car long before.
1980 V-8 Seville has throttle body fuel injection, the guy in the video replaced the computer. My girlfriend had a 1980 Eldorado with the 368 fuel injected engine. The 4.1 liter V-6 came with a 4 barrel carburetor, no computer in 1980, Computer Command Control in 1981.
1976-1979 Sevilles were also fuel injected.
I stand corrected. A friend had a 76 El Dorado which had a carburetor and FI was an option for those I believe.
A buddy of mine (mechanic, car customizer, and painter) took one of those El Dorados and modded it for a guy. He added 18" of length between the windshield and front wheels. I never got to drive it but sat in it while in the shop.
If you think that aircraft carrier hood was long when stock you should have seen it with 1.5 feet added to it and with paint matched spare tire kits on the side of each front fender.
It was well done as an oddity but not my cup of tea. Right turns would be a nightmare it would seem.
I hope you did it, it will be worth it in the long run, I bought a 1962 Cad, not running it was a long term project i am happy i did it,
