I have posted before the only real AWD systems that work well in extreme conditions are Subaru & Audi(VW). This is by casual observation usually in ski parking lots at the end of day when cars are plowed in. I still stand by my statements that Honda and Toyota awd is lacking. I will credit Honda/Toyota for making their systems fuel efficient. And Toyota adding a center lock to RAV4 to override the not so hot when things get tough AWD system.
