This is my first post in this thread and am sorry to hear of all the problems you’ve had, but it sounds like the insurance company done you a BIG FAVOR by dropping you. It sounds like they didn’t have the door adjusted correctly and it may still be out of adjustment the reason the alarms associated with the door opening not working correctly. I agree that for an electrical problem a body shop is not the place to have it repaired unless it is something out of adjustment. Tell them if their work has been done properly they need to get back with the insurance adjuster and get the rest of the repairs approved and send it to a mechanic that can trace down the problem.
My son was involved in an accident with a lady about a year ago that didn’t have liability insurance as required by KY state law. I had uninsured/under insured coverage and my own insurance company tried to undercut my estimates by nearly $1000. when I disagreed they tried to convince me my car might be totaled considering the cost of the estimates ($2800 on an '02 Ford Escort), I informed the adjuster my car was in very good condition when the accident happened and I wanted it back in the same condition and also told him I had done some price checking on other Escorts and that Escorts that were 3-4 years older than mine and not in as good of condition were selling on the market in the area I live for usually at least $1000. more than my estimates, when I told him this that was the last I heard about them totaling my car. I think the adjuster thought he could snowball me into thinking my car wasn’t worth much and would get off cheap. I have since changed insurance companies and they called a few months ago wanting me back as a customer, I told them their adjuster tried to undercut my estimate and I was VERY HAPPY with my decision to change to another company after having been insuring 2-5 cars, my home and motorcycle with them for the past 25 years (probably $35000.+ in insurance premiums). In these 25 years I had 2 automotive related claims and 3 homeowners claims probably totaling less than $6000 which most was roof damage to my home from hail storms. Them trying to save $1000. ended up costing them about $2000 a year in insurance premiums. By the way this was ALLSTATE INSURANCE COMPANY. As it ended up I had the lady that hit my son and her brother (owner of the car) both charged with failure to carry liability insurance which didn’t cost me anything (taken care of by the county attorney) and took the estimates to court and the judge required them to pay full restitution for the damages. They didn’t have all the money to pay up front so they are having to make payments to me through the court every month until the balance is paid in full and they have to appear before a judge once a month showing a receipt from the court where they have paid on the restitution in the past 30 days. They also have to show proof when they go to court that they now have the vehicle insured.
Good luck with getting ALL your problems resolved, don’t let anything go unrepaired you paid your premiums now make the insurance company pay for damages and coverage YOU paid for. If the body shop/insurance company refuses to take care of ANYTHING related to this accident notify the state insurance commission in getting it resolved. This will get them attention they ARE NOT happy with or attention they DON’T want.
