I wonder how long the engine would have run if the oil had been properly maitained
I love how some people (like in that video) pull the dipstick showing no oil and say the engine has NO oil in it, typically the dipstick only shows 2 quarts from full to none…
Low does not automatically mean no oil… Vehicles typically don’t make it too far down the road with NO (zero) oil in them…
I did not watch the video but if that engine really has no oil in it is because they removed the drain plug and let it drain all night to get all of the oil out. Then they left the next morning without refilling.

Even worse. Inserted a twisted piece of paper towel bent 90Âş to reach the last few ounces of oil and wick it out.
Then called at 0-dark-thirty and almost forgot to screw in the oil plug and fill with oil.

Oil never appeared dirty.
I used Mobil 1 last oil change. Don’t normally use it. I drained it today (cold) and it continued to “drizzle” for 5 mins+. I usually put drain plug back in when oil is dripping. Or flow has stopped. Perhaps I was in a hurry?

Even though the oil is going up hill, fast little droplets from the end of the paper towel twist almost as though siphoned!
Mobil1 full synthetic 0W-16 bought at Walmart in 5-quart containers for the newer emergencyehicle.
0W-20 in 12-quart boxes for the 2023 RX350h at 280k.
Walmart thankfully also takes used oil.
Unnecessary. The amount of engine oil remaining in the oil pan is insignificant compared to the amount of oil trapped in the oil galleries, camshaft actuators, cylinder head etc.
Locating the drain plug in a lower location might allow 2 or 3 more ounces to drain but could be vulnerable to road debris.
The man in the video discusses carbon build-up on the valves, engine knock detection and cylinder wall scuffing/damage, but your title read: “Another oil discussion”.
Did you view and understand the video? It is a brief review of the Hyundai Theta II problems. Several people seem to be hung up on oil change procedures, the video has nothing to do with how to drain oil.

The Letsuck drains most oil but several ounces probably rema.in the oil pan due to a small lip. The oil plug screws into the bottom side of the pan.
I clean the oil plug area well before removing the oil plug.
After draining, the paper towel twist wicks the last insignificant amount out.
Draining overnight, in the morning I screw in the oil plug and slightly overfill from a new 5-quart container.
There are 25 ounces of oil remaining in the top of the engine. Toyota engineers understand that the last few ounces in the oil pan do not matter when changing oil.
