How dumb can you get?

@Whitey, It was a joke that probably didn’t translate to text as intended. People are kind here, and I try to work with that.

Jt, you have my apology.

Sadly, there will always be those that abuse the system, even to the point of outright theft as Yosemite pointed out. I hope that employee was prosecuted, not just terminated.

@cdaquila, I wasn’t sure if you were referring to what happened to Siegfried and Roy or if you were unaware.

on the rare occasion I get pulled over, I immediately slow down, but I do not pull over on a main road unless there is a shoulder. I will proceed slowly to the next side road and pull over there. the police seem to appreciate it and never have complained yet.

I also always place both hands on top the wheel and extend my fingers, especially at night, sothat they can see I m not armed. they are justifiably scared when they approach a vehicle and I feel safer doing this too

@VDCdriver‌

Those guys that narrowly missed hitting the idiot in the Nissan Rogue . . .

They should have surrounded him and yanked the guy out of the vehicle

Then they should have physically assaulted him. Not breaking bones or knocking out teeth, just enough bruises that he won’t soon forget it

I suspect he would remember that beating, and wouldn’t engage in such selfish behaviour again

As crazy as it sounds, beating that one guy would make the roads a safer place

db, i rarely disagree with you but this time i do. if guys surround someone with the intent of beating him, he may end up shooting them, and get away with it. also it s hard to control the amount of beating you give someone.

the police should have been called and all witnesses should surround him in court.

that said, some one so dumb should not drive at all. another exit will come along.

when i m on unfamiliar roads, in heavy, fast traffic, i ve learned to except that i will miss an exit sometimes and don t try to force the issue. there is always another exit

^

For the life of me, I cannot imagine what goes through the heads of people who back up (or do worse things) in order to get to an exit that they missed. Do they think that they are going to enter into some type of infinite black hole from which no escape is possible? Even on a limited-access highway, it is just so easy to go to the next exit, find the appropriate ramp going in the opposite direction, and then retrace your steps.

For somebody to think that it is more worthwhile to engage in incredibly dangerous behavior in the midst of speeding traffic, rather than simply go to the next exit, is just mind-boggling to me.

you would think that someone who is not a good driver would realize this and be more careful rather than less. maybe it was some kid who did not know how the highways work yet.

it s hard to believe that they were just that selfish

“you would think that someone who is not a good driver would realize this and be more careful rather than less”

Part of the problem, IMHO, is that most people seem to believe that they are superior drivers–even if they are not.

A perfect example is a female friend of mine. I no longer ride in her CR-V, simply because she constantly tailgates other cars, and when I have attempted to point out–in a gentle, diplomatic way–that she is tailgating, she barked, “No I’m not!”.
Yeah–driving ~ 5 feet from the bumper of the car in front of you doesn’t constitute tailgating…at least in her mind.

It is just so much easier to say, “Let’s take my car, Carol”, rather than take another white-knuckle ride in her car. And, in case you were wondering, her CR-V looks like the battle-scarred veteran that it is after less than 2 years.

By contrast, my vehicles still look showroom new, even after as long as 10 years, and I attribute the appearance of my vehicles to…
extremely careful driving…
regular washing & waxing…
and
parking in my garage.

I refuse to be overconfident about my driving, simply because overconfidence tends to lead to doing stupid, dangerous things while you are behind the wheel.

Somehow, my strategy seems to work, as the last accident that I had was…44 years ago.

Most of the “superior” drivers who I know manage to wind up in an accident every 3 or 4 years, but those accidents are always the fault of somebody else–not the fault of the “superior” accident-every-3-or-4-years-driver.

Go figure…

Mountainbike, I could also have written the post so that it could not have been taken the wrong way. I accept your apology, though I don’t think you needed to offer it.

wesw “so…I stop for animals when I can safely do so, if I m not sure, I m crushing the poor little critters.
if I can stop safely,” A couple of days ago I stopped for a stupid squirrel that was standing in my lane. I was on a residential street with no one behind me. When I beeped my horn it woke up and ran away.

I have watched this thread for a bit and thought it was a challenge, so since we have 13 pages I can now ask others how dumb can you get. Personally lighting hand sanitizer on fire just to see if it would flame, after rubbing it on your hands it will flame, now another was a video of an old guy burning out his mustache after binaca and blowing out birthday candles, a few singed hairs on that one, Any other challenges to how stupid can you get?

insightful and Bing Now you have got me started on geese! About 20 years ago our “Canada Geese” discovered that our climate was normally mild and decided that migrating was “for the birds”! In the Fall they gather in flocks of 6 to 106 and just fly in circles. They have become a huge pest problem. The “genius” politicians decided that trapping them and relocating them to the central and Eastern part of the State where the climate is colder was the solution. They are geese! They can fly over 1,000 miles! They know their way home! How dumb can you get?

TSM, OK is the same way. Before a HC permit is handed out there must be a written letter from the doctor submitted to the state which outlines the handicapped person’s physical issues and limitations. A numbered permit is then issued which is good for so many years and which must be followed up on again by the doctors when the renewal is due.

Reminds me of my dad’s mom. I was only about 6years old, but had caught on to the rules of the road. My Grandpa was in the passenger seat, with Grandma driving…while we kids probably were standing on the back floor watching where we were going. This was maybe 1960 so this was a common thing.
We came to a 4 way stop but another car to the right or left had stopped just a second or two before us. My Grandma started out as my Grandpa spoke up that the other car had the right of way. THis car had to slam on his brakes to let my grandma pass.
Her reply to Grandpa, “I’ve been on the road longer, I get to go first”!!!
