2002 Ford Taurus, 223K miles. Only maintenance and wear items have been serviced, save for the coil pack, idler pulley, water pump and a battery. 31 MPG summer, 27 MPG winter.
Normally I’d say the Celica, but the truth is that I’d probably drive the crap out of the Celica and only use the Subie to get groceries…so the Subie would probably llast longer.
Also had a 1993 Corsica, that I bought in 2004 had 183,000 when bought. In 2010 I traded it in with 268,000 miles in on our new 2010 Cobalt(and got $2000 trade-in value to boot!) Ran great, heater core was shot, brakes were seized so bad I couldn’t get them apart to fix it.
I wanted to get to 300,000 with the Buick Regal I bought in 1994…made it about a month ago…am now almost to 302,000. My wife says the limit on the next repairs is $5 So, I am driving it until it dies/needs more than a “$5” repair or the next plate renewal…January, 2012. My wife’s '02 Regal is at 176,000.
I currently drive a 1998 Subaru Outback with 456K miles on it. The engine was rebuilt at 264K and the transmission was replaced, under warranty, at 84K miles. I bought it in 1998 with only 71 miles on the odometer. Brevity of the first engine was due to lots of mileage between oil changes. Sometimes 10,000 to 15,000 miles. Since the engine rebuild, I always have the oil changed at about 5000 mile intervals. The Subaru dealership in Grand Rapids, Michigan loves it when I bring it in for oil changes (every 5th oil change is free!). I told them that with The Good Lord’s blessings, I will drive it to 500K.
Had a 1990 Toyota Corolla DX, automatic, royal blue. It had 228K when I gave it up in 2007. It needed another $500 worth of work and I was moving far away. The local public radio station would not touch it but another charitable organization took it and sold it for $800. The 1998 Subaru Legacy has 203k now and I hope this one will make it to the moon.
We put 267,000 on our Honda Odyssey minivan in 11 years. Then one fateful day going up a long grade fully loaded at freeway speed, the transmission gave up the ghost. That was the FIRST mechanical problem we ever had with the van, so no complaints here. We decided to sell it for emotional reasons – we wanted something different. You might say we divorced it.
We recently traded in our 1991 Honda Accord with 347,088.9 (plus the distance to the dealer.)
'82 Toyota Tercel hatchback
bought it with 110K on the ODO…sold it with 216K
used up 2 sets of brake rotors, 1 set of brake drums, 1 half shaft, 1 fuel pump, 2 timing belts, 5 sets of brake pads, 1 heater diverter valve, & 1 water pump (which died 3 months before I sold it…turned out to be ORIGINALLY installed on car when it was built!)
My dad’s 59 Bug (he purchased new) has 493,000 miles on it. Good running car. However, it’s on it’s 3rd motor. Still the original spec. 36 horse. Slow for it’s time in the day, slower yet by today’s standards. Lot’s of fun to drive though.
200+ '73 Pinto
300+ '93 Impreza
300+ '97 Impreza (still driving)
210,000 Saturn SL. hand me down from my mom. Just put in a new transmission (standard) otherwise nothing other than oil and standard maintenance. Have used it to move cross country 4 times so its seen its share of heavy loads over the Rockies and the sierras
My 1996 Subaru Legacy wagon just turned over 1.26 LU (Lunar Units, or 300,000 miles) last month. Surprisingly few problems, apart from some expected repairs due to age, like the clutch at ~270k miles.
Not too bad…
