Car hesitates when trying to accelerate, then lunges forward
Is your check-engine light on?
No the engine light is not on.
Try cleaning the electronic throttle body.
If that doesn’t help, then there may be a problem with the accelerator pedal position sensor.

Good ideas above. These sort of symptoms could be caused by quite a few things, so it is hard to say with any certainty what the actual cause is. But it is indeed a frustrating problem. I had a similar problem on my Corolla , most noticed during slow speed neighborhood driving. That it turned out was caused by slightly clogged fuel injectors. Clogged fuel injectors on a 3 year old car seems unlikely, but OP still might want to try a bottle of fuel injector cleaner in the gas tank. Who knows, might work.
