Heating up engine with premium

totally full.

Delayed warm-up is one sign of a thermostat that is stuck open. Had that one before.

Had it before too, many times. But it does not reach a lower equilibrium temperature than it should, nor does the result depend on the outside temperature, as you would expect for an open thermostat. It’s the same at 0 as it is at 35 (F).

But you’ve got some other HVAC problem, right? So maybe fixing that will fix this problem.

OK, car diagnosed. Two problems:

  1. Bad seal on thermostat. Close enough to the “partly open” idea.
  2. Heater control valve was not reconnected on recent engine replacement job.

Thanks, all.

Glad you got it diagnosed & fixed. No fun not having good heat in the winter.

I too am pleased that you got the problem solved, and offer my thanks for taking the time to post the results. Not only is closure good to have, and happy ending pleasant to hear, but we also learn from the success of others.

Good work. Happy motoring.
