Hoping to get some guidance on how to use this device.
So while the car is cold open either the coolant reservoir lid. Start the car and wait for it to get to operating temperature. Insert device into reservoir and squeeze the bulb a few times.
My question is, when I insert the device, am I then closing the cooling system to the outside air and therefore allowing for the system to be pressurized? I should therefore wait for the car to cool off completely before removing the tester? Or it doesn’t matter because it will only be there for a few minutes and not enough time for it to pressurize?
Stick the device either in the radiator or the reservoir and squeeze the bulb and then release it to draw vapors into the test fluid to see if it changes color.
No. You’re just taking a sample of the vapors to see if it turns the test fluid a different color.
You remove the pressure cap from the cooling system when the engine is cold, Start the engine and let get up to operating temperature and then take the vapor sample.
Just don’t let coolant come in contact with the test fluid or it will contaminate it and you will have to clean it and start all over… Meaning you are testing for exhaust vapors and not the coolant itself…
Just remember that there are 6 ways that a head gasket can leak/blow, only one will allow exhaust gases in the coolant…
