I’m sorry, I don’t think I want to try to kick start my High Compression Ducati Superbike engine. That would really, really hurt if there’s a recoil on the kick starter.
BC.

The PCM should automatically maximize economy at part throttle.
No need for a switch.
Another big drawback to electric / electronic devices is the amazing rate of obsolescence.
Just like home and personal electronics, advances come at such a rate that this years cars are different from last years, and different from their predecessores etc.
Diagnostics becomes a massive pain in constant re-schooling and re-tooling.
Interchanges and swap-outs become impossible.
And the older used-to-be state of the art items become un-useable.
I will agree with you on the auto dimming mirror, I don’t care for that feature in my car
as for the adjusting points; I’ve never had to adjust them, so yeah, it’d take me awhile.
Cars were built to be worked on, back in the day, because they needed to be worked on to be kept running. Now, most all they need is oil changes; hell, most new car owners won’t even change the spark plugs because they’ll have traded off the car before it needs them.
I’ve never had a windshield washer pump in a car fail. I did however have one car when I was younger that was missing the windshield washer reservoir. I carried a 2-liter bottle full of water and slung some on the windshield when I needed it.
Trideq: My first apartment 18 years ago had 3 natural gas-fired Servel chiller units outside that provided air conditioning for the building. Only two actually worked. They worked very well until the building changed hands and the new owners forgot to winterize them. The water froze and destroyed them. They were replaced with 3 electric units that were always troublesome.
I think that it’s not whether something is electronic or mechanical, but how much thought was put into the design and how much care in building it.
Servel equipment was quite reliable. Unfortunately, the Sevel company went out of business in 1957. Now, it has been determined that if the burner becomes partially plugged on a Servel gas refrigerator, thereis the danger of deadly carbon monoxide poisoning. The government is now recalling them and paying $100 per refrigerator for each unit turned in.
I did have the windshield washer pump fail on my 1978 Oldsmobile some years back. The pump is built into the windshield wiper motor. I bought a universal pump at WalMart and connected it up so that it pumps direcly from the reservoir. It works just fine. I have owned a couple of cars that didn’t have windshield washers. However, J.C. Whitney offered a kit that consisted of a reservoir, a dome shaped pump that was mounted on the floorboard, a couple of nozzles and the tubing to connect everything. The whole kit was less than $10 and worked just fine.
I would at least like the option to kickstart on my 250cc thumper. That does not seem like too much to ask. B-)
Talking about all throttle positions. The truck has this great power and it must be wasting a lot of fuel. When my 85 Cadillac went silly for three days at a time, it had no power but got 30 MPG on the highway trip. If every car could do that it might be nice. It usually got about 24 on the highway. I’m not talking about data center MPG, it was actual. Every car could do better and it could help if some of the extra performance could be cut off in favor of economy. The customer could choose.
But then, the OP did say electrically and I thought he meant electronically.
The way I see world events unraveling those that wish for a day with less technology may just get their wish. It seems mankind is on something like a bender and those always end, badly.
I never really minded my kick start Triumph until it would not start, Maybe if I was younger, like 16 I wold not have minded.
I HATE electronic seats…Waste of electronics if you ask me. Wife has them in her Lexus…Before I can drive her car I have to put the seat back…Press the button and wait about 15 seconds for the seat to move back…With a mechanical system…I just pull on the lock…and move the seat back in about 0.5 seconds.
I’m also not a big fan of power controlled HVAC vents. Makes no sense. I’ve never had a problem with the electrical ones…but it just seems like a waste to me.
I do like power windows and power door locks though.
I think the biggest issues are gonna be the when you have a module go bad,say like a BCM in a chevrolet you can put a used one in and theft learn it but your option’s and vin are not gonna jive with the SDM so now you have to get a new one from the dealership and have it programmed.
Our 50’s frigidaire at the cabins is still running strong, an upgrade to something with auto defrost might be nice. Last year my mom decided to upgrade the oven because you had to light it manually, luckily only some singed eyebrows for the kids. We enlightend the upcoming generation about party lines and rotary phones, just for historic purpose, but upgraded the phone service and phones in the 80’s I think. My inlaws moved out of their house 10 years ago, and were still paying an equipment charge for the phone, and a charge for touch tone dialing. Remember when you called somebody and did not have to ask where are you?
