Hail to the Chief!

relax, and be happy. It worked, mostly.
Could have been worse- GWB could have taken an active role in his last year in office. And Congress could have gone stupider and put in their penny’s worth.

It worked ? What about all of the foreclosures and those left penniless on the say of the lending institutions, the ones who repossessed the property, kept the funds the govt. gave them and made no move for years to help the borrower until forced to. That money we so carelessly given away without condition on an agreement drawn up by Bush appointees from Sachs, the very institution that introduced the derivatives, became 700 billion of the debt inherited by Obama. The rest, a direct result of tax cuts and the same lied to get into Iraq war. It did not work and we are still trying to clean up the mess, while the Rs promote the exact same economic deregulation and spending proposals in the Ryan plan, and blame the guy with the mop, and not the guy and the policies who created the mess.
" it worked, mostly" it didn’t even work partly whle the auto bailout which actually saved jobs instead of costing them…that you can say worked mostly. A bailout that costs jobs and bankrupts the common man, didn’t work at all like it was suppose to.

TARP has turned a profit.

Tarp has turned a profit ? It was an immediate 700 billion for Goldman Sachs types. The American people who lost their homes…how did they profit ? The money should have gone directly to those in jeopardy, the mortgage holders or not at all. Goldman Sachs was never in jeopardy. They took out the loans under false pretenses and According to the FBI, 80 percent of the malefesances was done by the loaner / lenders in their investments to make money and, they received the bailout and the borrowers got no security and lost their homes and only recently have the ones left been able to renegotiate. This is an example of the rich getting richer and waiting for trickle down to work…still waiting for the majority.

Like I said,
Be Happy. It Worked, Mostly.
I don’t disagree with you D. There should be a lot of mortgage brokers, underwriters, reviewers, compliance, bankers, mortgagees-loanees, lawyers, and whoever you want to name, who ought be penalized. At the local level, it really wasn’t hard to find fraud.

Those that got hurt the most are those who didn’t borrow, didn’t leverage, and had investments in whatever fancied them.

Those who lost their homes, Sorry, and I really sympathize with you and the plight of millions of others like you. You should have voted better and know that no one’s job is safe.

Highly recommend Alan Binder’s, After the Music Stopped

If this article is any indication, he sounds like an author I could get used to. Thanks. He speaks to Bushnomics; raging war in the middle of a tax cut and signing a bailout in the middle of one while not debating or offering offsetting cuts or additional revenue to pay or it. That is just the R logic I commented on earlier and, is still reflected by Romney and now solely Ryan economics. The more they change, they more they remain the same.
Good time to post…Sox in a rain delay with the Yanks.

Looks like Obama skipped out on the signing ceremony today at the UN for their arms treaty. From what I’ve read, it won’t even pass the senate, let alone congress, to get ratified

That’s only half the story…why is the real question. That’s because America is the leading arms dealer in the world…money talks.
But still…

And, this is why if you wear either a D or an R on your lapel on this issue, you should be equally embarrassed by the bipartisan opposition to this treaty. Both parties want to continue leading the world in for profit killing. That’s why because of issues like this, I refuse to belong to either party. The parties should be renamed to R and R light. On issues like this, there is little difference in congress. Many, seemingly opposed members of congress, both blue and red, drink from the same toxic trough.

Yes please give me any legitimate third party candidate to knock some sense into these two parties. Incidently our former Minnesota Governor, Jessie the Body was indicating to Pierce M on CNN, that he might be interested in running for Pres. Actually he sounds nuts but was a good governor. He hired good people and left them alone (because he generally didn’t like to work hard-my opinion). You should have seent he faces of the Democrat and Republican old guard when he won. I couldn’t believe it and they couldn’t but caused some serious review of both. He couldn’t do any worse than what we’ve had.

@bing
I hear you…
Independent does not mean you are necessarily for any third party candidate. It means you are not affiliated with any party and free to support whom you want. Some states have open primaries which allow any one to vote in either primary. Run off elections would help too. The reason you seldom see viable third party candidates is money, locked up in the two parties. A Jessie Ventura, though as you say, on the state level, they can be very effective. Our independent senator, Angus King, as well as Bernie Sanders of Vermont are independents. They are liberal. But independents have been very conservative as well. They are beholding to no one. Maybe if everyone dropped their party affiliation, that might shake things up.

i hear the terms liberal and conservative more than republican and democrat these days. I, too, consider myself independent rather than D or R.
I am pretty far right on the gun control issue. Though not as far right as Alex Jones or that former marine who wanted to do the armed march on DC(he’s canceled that now)
I’m on the fence with immigration. On one hand they are here illegally and shouldn’t be entitled to anything, even jobs. On the other hand, they are doing jobs no one wants to do, and companies need to fill those spots somehow.

@bscar I hear those terms also, but current state and federal situations, for WI as far as state is if we are in power we will pass whatever we want to pass. WI Walker overturned a sick pay leave approved by voter referendum in Milwaukee, course he also limited damages to companies for faulty products, and the ability to collect damages in discrimination cases, ruled state and local unions only had the power to bargain for a cost of living increase, no more workplace protection, Voter ID, (overturned in courts), a mining bill to allow a 4 mile strip mine that will decimate indian tribes downstream clean waters with the ability to fill in lakes and rivers with sulphide ore mining debris if they pay into a wetland restoration, then there is the ability to sell off state resources in a no bid process, orchestarated by walker, tax cuts proposed to he wealthy and unemployment regulations doubled as far as how many jobs per week you have to apply for, earned income credit eliminated, welfare and medicaid cut but a new dept for small business growth shown full of corruption and chastised for giving loans to people with vested interests, now if this is the way you think America should go you will understand the reason walker is the golden boy of the tea party.

i hear the terms liberal and conservative more than republican and democrat these days. I, too, consider myself independent rather than D or R.

I too am an independent…And I’m NOT conservative OR liberal. But it really depends on what YOUR definition of Conservative or Liberal is. Get me 100 people from different parts of this country…and I’ll show you 100 different definitions of conservative and liberal.

“they are doing jobs no one wants to do”

Not quite true…
Companies need to fill those jobs that only undocumented works do…because they get paid for less then minimum wage. Many Business that hire them really don’t want any comprehensive immigration laws past. Legal workers then may fall under minimum wage laws. It isn’t that undocumented workers always do jobs that no one else wants to do necessarily; it’s that no citizen wants to do a job for less money then he could get on unemployment or working somewhere else for the higher minimum wage. Many Businesses don’t even want to hire a US citizen or documented worker. They don’t want to break the minimum wage law. It’s their way of bringing third world labor into the US. No minimum wage, no health insurance, no OSHA, no ACLU breathing down your neck, no unions and most of all, no accountability. It’s a businessman’s paradise. So being on the fence about immigration, is real conservative and follows the R plan to the letter.

They have to look like they care to get the minority and Latino vote while really not changing anything to keep the financing. They are trying to figure out how to do both. They are on the fence !

That’s why the big hang up in passing a comprehensive immigration law. The Rs can’t seem to separate human rights from to their loyalty to their political donors. Before unlimited campaign contributions, the Rs were at the front of this issue…now they are confused; and want the rest of us to be too. That way, they can keep the status quo from one election to another.

That's why the big hang up in passing a comprehensive immigration law

There already are laws on the books that make it illegal for companies to hire someone for less then minimum wage…documented or undocumented. It’s not enforced very well…but the laws are there.

It’s illegal for any company to hire any undocumented worker too for any wage. A very small percentage are ever prosecuted and then only when it’s politically expediant to do something. The Federal Govt. could crack down but at the expense of local economies. So, they won’t do it and in some cases will not allow local govt. to do it. Such is the influence of business over our fed !!! Somehow, conservatives think we are going to do what ?.? Ship millions back ? Actually fine all the businesses ? comprehensive immigration laws has nothing to do directly with the minimum wage. Instead, it should be designed to address the problem realistically instead of talking about what is impossible. When a worker is legalize, he can become part of a union, get benefits, qualify for minimum wage but also PAY taxes.

The GOP will support amnesty for the current illegals and an open border for future immigrants who work for slave wages and toe the line for their employers. There are plenty of Americans willing to do the work that the illegals are doing but they expect a living wage and decent working conditions. The GOP is opposed to those conditions. The GOP’s radio crew have talked tough for quite a while and they continue to talk tough but they “flex” their view. They continue to push the border issue as a red herring but their greatest issue is delaying voting rights to the aliens for 15 to 20 years. Of course, strengthening the border could be done so that it greatly helps Texas and Arizona while leaving New Mexico and California out. It’s all dog and pony show.

A very small percentage are ever prosecuted and then only when it's politically expediant to do something.

If they’re NOT enforcing the laws that are on the books…then what will passing new laws accomplish?

It’s simple . The primary function of the federal govt. is to preserve the original 10 amendments of the bill of rights which provide personal freedom for all, including LEGAL non citizens within it’s borders, obviously to varying degree. Penalizing all businesses who hire illegal aliens may not seve this purpose and is why not all businesses who hire them, are not prosecuted. Some products may disappear from your food shelf for example and even the menial jobs they have, if lost, would create even more of a hardship to they and local and state govts.

If working immigrants ( who will NEVER BE DEPORTED BY THE MILLIONS) are given legal status, they are now under more jurisdiction of the Feds, local and state govts. They can then enforce minimum wage laws, working conditions and importantly , collect taxes for their services while dealing with the businesses that hire them in a more equitable way as the businesses would no longer be breaking the law pertaining to hiring of illegals.

But, the GOP is in a conundrom. They can’t support legal status and force companies to pay a livable wage while still getting reelection donations from them. The border can and should never be an absolute barrier. There needs to be a politically comprehensive solution worked out by both parties. Unfortunately, tea party Representives can’t even spell cooperation, let alone engage in it.

@Barkydog, how did that person get elected to start with? He sounds like a real carpetbagger, but every dog has his day.The chickens are coming home to roost,America is still number one in a lot of things, however No.1 is starting to mean less and less, the character of the nation is getting diluted as more people want to make it like the third world hellhole they left(work hard, work cheap-the GOP loves you,oh by the way has anyone noticed what cronyism and peak oil is doing to the economy?)-Kevin
