Did I ever say that the Govt. was on the cutting edge ?
But you way you want them to run the internet technology…So you DON’T want latest technology??

I can’t believe you guys are actually arguing over whether or not the feds ought to take over expanding the internet? Are you really serious? Yeah and I’ve had a little government experience too. Just take a look at the outdated air traffic control system and see how important it is to stay up on technology for the feds. And there is plenty plenty of money-they just don’t want to spend it.
There are branches of govt. that use this stuff though that doesn’t make them experts in delivering it to the public. You talk like the Internet is some monstrous endeavor that only few profiteers in opposition to the govt. can manage. You think that Time Warner or Verizon have access to better management personel then the Govt.? . I’m sure Bill Gates would show his support in helping out as well as a number of talented people in the field who actually feel the public and business deserve a better break the they are getting. It wouldn’t hurt Microsoft and Google as well.
@Bing and @mike
They are moving in that direction with support from some in the industry, whether naysayers think they can or not.
You think that Time Warner or Verizon have access to better management personel then the Govt.?
Let’s NOT pick little pieces…argue the WHOLE of what I said…not small parts…
I SAID…there is no reason Verizon needs to have a monopoly on towns for their cable service. There is no reason what-so ever. So get rid of the monopoly and you now have competition. With competition then Verizon will either sink or swim. Sure right now they are pretty crappy…but with competition (which I’m all for)…they’ll either step up or step aside.
#2…Verizon doesn’t BUILD OR DESIGN ANYTHING…I know…we sell to them. They are one of our biggest clients.
So you DON'T want latest technology??
From what I’ve heard about Windows 8, I’m glad I switched to OSX. 8 is supposedly so bad that I know one die hard pc/windows fanboy is now saving up to buy their first Macbook.

And that’s a GOOD thing. There’s competition. Between Mac and Linux…the consumer has a choice…Government control…NO CHOICE.
Can you imagine if the there’s one massive upgrade by the Government and the whole internet shuts down???
@mike
I would argue that you are exactly right. There should be more competition. But, like the highway system, the project is too big and even with competition, they would not and could not do it. Their motivation is profit first. So we tax tdollars, do their work and turn it back over to them and let them continue charging us rates four times that of other industrialized nations. Whether we think the govt. is capable is again abolutely immaterial. If they can’t do it IT WON’T GET DONE.
@bscar2
I hear you. But, I don’t have the insight in the difference you do. I have always used Mac OS. I would not know the difference other then to say, when I visit my daughter and her Windows OS, I am a total neophyte. But, when she visit me, she and her kids are off and running on intuition alone. I guess owning something other then OSX actually makes you a better mechanic…you definitely have more practice. Like understanding car repair better because you owned an Audi instead of a Lexus.
@bscar2 I got a windows 8 computer for work, testing purposes, It was easier to navigate through and figure out than I thought it would be, the harder one was office 03 to 07. At least with win 8 I do not have to wait a year for some of our windows dependent programs to become compatible as I did with xp to vista. Would I love to jump off windows, sure, can I, no.
People keep telling me W8(NOT THE WARHEADS) is better, what gives?[cant afford MAC]-Kevin
Kevin…
I am not a Mac salesman but will sound like one. I’m on my second power Mac in 17 years, the first was about 12 years old when we changed. We bought the first used. They are very easy to owner service and upgrade and have excellent support. So are they expensive initially ? Yes, but you get what you pay for. My son works for Microsoft. He has several Apple devices. BTW, since they went to Intel processors, they run some Microsoft programs better then Windows. Once you get the computer, everything works seemlesly with it…every other trouble free but foreign made and expensive Apple device…my biggest gripes.
In comparing with friends using other brands, we get more trouble free use and keep them much longer. I would recomend an Apple Mini desk top as a less expensive alternative and supply your own key board and monitor. I am thinking about dumping my Direct TV programming and using my Apple TV which is very portable, interfaces with my computer and allows us to watch Internet programming, anywhere in the house. Need to do the gazintas. but, I find IPads work convieniently too.
BTW,I have no doubt that Apple could manage a trouble free, advanced wireless high capacity Internet service…seemlesly but for an outrageous price. After all. In one quarter they Mae many billions more in profit then the next 5 electronic endities, in clouding Microsoft and Google, COMBINED. That’s for those of you who measure competence by profit making capacity…;=)
Dang it Dag, you sold me-next time its got to be an Apple,no matter what Kim Kommando says.I’m very tired of this hacker friendly windows stuff,would be nice to be able to download something without half a dozen untempting offers popping up(paid for the internet service and I dont want to watch commercials-lifes too short)-Kevin
.I'm very tired of this hacker friendly windows stuff
Mac is JUST as hacker friendly…Hackers don’t bother because of the low numbers compared to ALL the other PC’s running one of the Windows operating systems.
Before you buy a MAC…you might want to wait for the next generation.
Mac started out with Motorola chips…then went to PowerPC and Motorola…now they use the X86 Intell chip running Linux as it’s core.
But Apple is thinking switching again…based on the ARM chips now used in the iPhones and iPads.
But that could be a few more years away.
@mike
I agree. Imo, If you see a file film of a tank operator with an Apple lap top, it’s usually because more terrorists are getting the cheaper Dells on sale.
But, that being said, I wonder too if consolidating software under one umbrella makes it less suseptable to hacking with built in universal measures then dealing with with off the shelf software written by everyone and their brother.
@kevin…you are right about the commercials . I hear lots of omplaints from non Apple users that I am not seeing.
Is Wayne LaPierre a disciple of Charles Manson? The NRA’s point man must be munching on peyote and grooving to Helter Skelter.
Wayne has a direct line to the consolidated efforts of the gun manufacturers. Guns, unlike cars, last for generations. They depend upon selling more then what people need and to those who don’t need or shouldn’t have them. They don’t believe in the hype themselves. What they do believe in is a free market that includes anyone with the money to buy their product. That includes , kids too young to drive, criminals and anyone who can demonstrate they have an active trigger finger. The amount of grey matter necessary for a person to properly use a firearm for lawful purposes is totally irrelevant to them.
The gun maker’s anthem.
Re money, there does seem to be a group at the top of the money chain who have accumulated more wealth than they can actually comprehend and parse it out to others to manage and look at the rate of increase between the managers as a game and are clueless and unconcerned about anything beyond the results of the next round of quarterly reports. The money men actually believe they are the smartest men in the world based on their scores from the tickers. The corporate equity markets allow the money men to divert attention from themselves and put the blame on the the ‘market.’
The money men actually believe they are the smartest men in the world…
…even those who inherited it or benefit from it’s advantages over those who were born in poverty.

Up to a month ago I was getting up at 4:30 AM my benevolent bosses fired me rather then lay me off ,because I didnt back down from thier derogatory BS.of course by virtue of being a convicted felon I cant find another job in this tight market,so I do know about have nots,the additional employment oft times isnt an option(I dont miss getting up at 4:30 AM)-Kevin
