It does seem somewhat apparent that each party sees its own self interest as its first priority.
That’s the problem. Because it’s NOT self interest in either party.
Outsourcing jobs to India and China benefit the few 0.1% at the top…but it hurts the middle class. But the 0.1% don’t have enough votes to get their person in office. SO…they convince the under-educated and uninformed that outsourcing is GOOD. I bet I can find you several thousand people who will say…that Outsourcing jobs to India and China actually creates jobs here in the US. You only have to go back to July of this year where the Republicans blocked a bill that would eliminate deductions to companies that moved jobs out of the country. The deductions would still be allowed if the job stayed in the US. One Senator even said that by allowing this deduction…it would give the companies the money they needed to create new jobs.
And the other end…How is giving everyone (including illegal immigrants) welfare if they ask for it. How is that in the self interest of anyone.
RK,because we’ve been there and done that and some of us actually love our fellow man and woman.
No.49 (I believe it is) A third centrist party will be formed and recognized-Kevin
The latest news out of DC is that everyone appears ready to deal to get a deficit reducing federal budget passed. The problem is that it is unlikely that a comprehensive plan can be devised and voted on by the end of the year. Expect that there will be a temporary delay and suspension of the sequester. But sometime next calendar year and before October we should expect to have a comprehensive plan in place to make Federal Government outlays much more nearly match Federal Government revenues. We can insure this by emailing our elected representatives and telling them exactly how we would like the compromise to be structured. The sooner you write, the more likely it is that they can act on your requests. Tick-Tock.
No one has to suppose anything. Just do a little googling, to see what administrations have balanced budgets. Because all administrations never act in a vacuume but are at the mercy of what the previous administration did, the true indicator of how well an administration did is to compare it to the previous administration. If you do this actual sane approach, you will see that most liberal administrations sinse ww2 actually did much better then most conservative administrations , lowering the deficit from the previous. Reagan, our wonder boy, turned this country from the biggest lending nation to the biggest borrowing nation in the world. Everything else to the contrary is made up. So if indeed you want to lower the deficit, do a little fact checking…otherwise, keep lieing to yourself.
The reason ? In general, administrations never cut spending. They just shift their priorities to pay off their supporters. But, one side just keeps cutting taxes to avoid any possibility of lowering the deficit. Trickle down has never worked and going to war and cutting taxes on the rich are the biggest deficit makers…not helping the poor.
Btw, the other big lie being thrown at us now is that SS and Madicare contribute to the deficit and federal income tax has to be debated with that in mind. sS and Medicare are paid with payroll tax and all that needs be done is to adjust upward the income limit paid by the rich, and institute Obama care or better, universal single payer heathcare, so people enter their Medicare years healthier so we can reduce the 80% of the expenditures that go toward conditions that are preventable…like non hereditary linked diabetes.
It’s a wonder why old white men vote for a party that want to keep them ignorant, unhealthy and poor.
Dag.these people are Hoodwinked.A few of my associates have turned 180,used to be they despised the Republicans, now they think they are the best thing since sliced bread.I been disapointed by some of the people I have voted for on the left(also on the right) but I dont like anybody getting blasted through ignorance, just because Rush or Sean says so. I will say that Rush turned me on to talk radio in a big way, however it didnt take long to see how one sided thier stance was.Glenn Beck seems to be “Rush light”.I think Neal Boortz is tolerable because of his politics and ability to blast both sides
I’ve really moved to the center on politics,it seems the centrists are more apt to comprimise and get something done rather then go and sulk in a corner.I love Rockwell and Paul on thier anti-war stance.“Freedom may not be free” but neither is meddling-Kevin
Kevin, IMO, People are “hoodwinked” as you say because they are what I call the “Charlton Heston, John Wayne and Clint Eastwood " crowd and are being played to with the tough talk image. Being independent and tough is all well and good as long as YOUR " check from the govt.” comes in. A friend of mine said, " gee, I don’t care if they privatize SS or Medicare, it won’t affect me. Just the younger laborer. I may vote republican because the country is going to socialism." DUMB !
I remind him that Medicare and SS are a pay-go system and as soon as the younger start paying in to private plans instead, his benefits will immediately be cut or the national debt. goes up or both. Nothing is free. People are so suseptable to lies when their idols for the way they should live in real life are Heston and Wayne and Eastwood.
Guarentee if these programs werent mandated, there would be a lot more destitute people. Some of my Republican friends will tell you how SS helped thier Farmer Grandads, while they had payed practically nothing into it.
Guess some folks retirement plan is,hitting the Lottery-Kevin
You know another thing that gets my goat, are those socalled costs(court costs ,etc;) you mean the bureaucrats dont get paid if there are no perps? What really makes me suspicious is the fact you dont get a discount for paying on the spot or paying without a court appearence(at least the DMV charges less if you do your business on the internet) and I dislike the fact the judges and commonwealth attorneys get the first pick of the confiscated booty, not to mention the rumours about what disappears from the evidence lockers.I think you dont know what kind of proxies are used when the evidence is bought forth. Sometimes I think some of these costs are used for the “Vegas” fund,we have a large nonprofit organization around here that used to have an annual “Vegas” trip.
No. 50 would be full disclosure of seized property and true public auctions and no quotas or credit gained for the number of convictions(public servants dont serve just a chosen few of the public) and this ridiculous cost structure to be eliminated,[fight crime -support the second admendment, dont reley on the bullies to fight the bullies for you]-Kevin
Ah,it came to my attention yesterday-
No.51 would be,a tax break on all businesses that have a restroom for thier customers. Its very annoying and impractical for some customers to have to walk several hundred yards to use a bathroom(sure not good for someone who cannot hardly get around)-Kevin
@kmccune…Kevin, tax deductions can be taken on expenses necessary to run the business. If a business decides it wants to add a rest room for either, it’s employees or customers and maintain that rest room, they can add those expenses to their list of deductions and it no longer is taxable as net income profit. In essence, it’s up to the business to take that break and not the govt. If marginal tax rates are too low, the business owner(s) are more apt to keep the money and not invest in things like additional rest rooms. If they are sufficiently high enough, there is an incentive to avoid the higher rates by reinvesting them into the business, including things like addition rest rooms.
Businesses and employment grew the most historically when highest marginal rates were 70% and more.
If you want the govt. to increase the number of restrooms, increase top marginal tax rates while giving a full deduction for those taxes on operational costs including additional restrooms .
That’s the way it works. We don’t need deductions on low rates, but on higher rates. JUST go to the management and tell them you will no longer shop there if they don’t have adaquate RESTROOM facilities. Tell them you will exercise your right to assemble peacefully out front on a public way and wear or hold a sign showing your intent…of course if I were really crude, I would do something else on a tree in front of their business.
That’s how the market place, free speech and govt. work in concert.
Well Dag good points, but that really wasnt what I was geting at.I just think that places of business need a restroom(at least a porta john for rural service stations)-Kevin
It’s based on capacity. A store like Sears is REQUIRE by law to have a public rest room. If you own a mall with a certain capacity then you are required to have a public rest room. MA and NH are NOT one of those states. I know NY is and I think CA and PA have similar laws.
What I HATE in NH…is businesses that have very inadequate parking. There are several stores near me I refuse to shop at because parking is almost impossible. Or some stores put in parking grids where only a subcompact can fit. Even my wifes 96 Accord had a hard time fitting in these spots.
@kmccune…I hear what you are saying. But my verbosity was a “how to” suggestion. If you want every business to offer these, support the general suggestions. If you have a couple in mind, Talk directly to their management. I have to apologize, but I was raised a problem solver when sometimes people just need to be listened to. I have a neighbor who owns several small businesses and he is an absolute money maker. When customers complain, he listens, does the gazintas, and acts. Most succesful business people do that IMO.
Btw, before my neighbor built his new store with tax deductible funds, he put up portapotties by the old one. Why?
Because he got enough complaints from his employees and customers using employee relief rooms…he had inadequate public restrooms. Complaining WORKS !
No.52-elimination of most superflous holidays.No.53-real overhaul of postal system(junk mail no longer gets a reduced rate,eg;)No.54-bureaucracy can no longer compete in private sector-Kevin
@kmccune. The real problem is the 2006 bill passed by the republican controlled congress designed to gut the Postal service by requiring them to fund retirement benefits out to 75 years. This cost 5 billion dollars a year. The post office has it’s hands tired by that and requirements like providing so called business incentives you complain about. If the post office were allowed to run like a business without legislative interference deigned to make them non competitive, so they can accomplished their real mission of providing service to those which private carriers won’t touch, we would all be better off.
Individual postal workers are credited with saving lives every year, a little known fact, do to the preparedness requirements they have. They go places no other service provider go on a regular basis and for many poor and secluded, are their only link to any security. You won’t see UPS ever see these people, let lone train their drivers to respond to safety emergencies.
Junk mail may be the operating base for the Postal Service. If everyone in my area gets the volume of junk that I get the Postmen’s routes should be somewhat profitable. At $1+ per mailbox and delivering at a rate of 1 house per minute the junk should cover the fixed cost of the route and first class mail and parcels would be the “gravy,” so to speak.
Here, and across the country apparently, communities have been screaming at their congressmen to prevent the closing and/or downsizing of post offices to save money. Somehow a great many people feel “entitled” to have a post office nearby as they complain about the socialist POTUS. … Go figure.
