Battery power for the saws and weed Wacker but gas push mower for around trees, the fence, and other spots the lawn tractorcan’t get. We can get pure gas close but I’m pretty sure the cans hold pump gas. The field mower and the quad to pull it use the most. But you need more toys to maintain 4 acres. Electric start Briggs motor under the cover. Dad wishes he’d bought a quad with eps but supply was limited at the time. Has a bunch of other uses though.
I do the same, always non-ethanol, for the amount use, maybe an extra $10/year.
As far as putting away for the season, nah, I just run them for ten or fifteen minutes every week or two.
To replace my generator with battery operated generator would I not need massive solar panels?
Currently is gas powered. Keep putting off getting a natural gas generator.
But aren’t we getting into illegal activity? Only supposed to discuss cars or trucks. I remember a thread being shutdown because the motor in question was not in a car or truck.
Is that a problem? I mean if the mower took 20 pulls to start everytime I used it, even when warm, I might want to fix it. But I don’t find that unusual for a first start on a machine that’s been sitting 5-6 months.
Is the choke releasing fully?
Read the title of the tread; small engine outdoor equipment.
Someone asked an inappropriate question? Which thread was that? A few years ago, someone opened a tread about an ATV or motorcycle engine, some regular members objected but was it locked?
My two stroke died last year, within ten minutes of my mower dying, I think they planned it that way
The trimmer got replaced with a 40V unit, works as well if not better than my gas unit. However the bump and go head is lousy, much harder to load and will often jam with 10 of the 14 feet left on the spool.
About three years ago, question posted by one, of the members that continues to participate. Question was not about a car or truck. It was a legitimate question.
Doesn’t make any difference what the title of the thread is. Me? I don’t care, but there is the fantom flagger or is it phantom phlagger?
Apparently, you and others will soon be sending the OP replies about your trip to the ice cream parlor in 1968 or some other information that will be of no help in maintaining a lawn mower.
Hey at least I posted it under the sub-cat “General Discussion”!
@ChrisTheTireWhispeaw , the ice cream place is next door to tractor supply where they have lawn mowers or anything you want mechanical. I remember discussions on flying too that were interesting. Fewer and fewer people are willing or able to fix their cars so maybe best not to target That alone.
I do need to appologize a little for my comments on auto zone. Sunday I stopped for a can of gas for my mower. Started the car and immediately had a check engine light. I swung by AZ though and got a code check. The kid was very accommodating and printed ou5 everything for a MAF sensor. Wanted to sell me one but got the $10 cleaner instead. Took care of it. I was impressed.
How did you conclusively verify a dirty MAF sensor was indeed the problem?
I’ve seen a lot of guys clean the MAF, clear the code(s) and pat themselves on the back, only to have the exact same code come back several days later
The last step is usually “verify the repair” . . . and that is often what separates the mediocre mechanics from the really good ones, as I see it
But you don’t have seasons in Florida, it would be impractical for someone in the north to run a snow blower for an hour in July.
Nothing lasts forever, did you try running the engines for 15 minute each week?
Try Bing’s recommendation; he gets repair assistance for his mower at AutoZone.
That lawn mowers are used to drive to the ice cream store by people who have lost their drivers license due to too many DUI make it okay?
Huh? Was running fine. Stopped the weed whacker to replace the line, could not get the engine to turn over , pulled the spark plug to make sure not hydro locked, still no movement with spark plug out. The line head spun freely, but engine would not budge, maybe a busted connecting rod? I too used canned premixed fuel from the mower shop. As far as the mower, shop said that engine brand would snap the cam shaft. Rather than hauling the mower to the land fill, just “donated” it to the shop.
Yes, we do have seasons in Florida, just entered wet and hurricane season. In the fall, dry season begins, grass really slows its growth. Then February when the oaks drop their leaves, will fill the yard waste bin every week for six weeks. I really should change the oil in the generator, but, as Scarlet O’Hara said “I can’t think about that right now. If I do, I’ll go crazy. I’ll think about it tomorrow”.
He did not say that.
Really? Why? These are low compression engines. Waste of money.
They stated that higher octanes contain lower percentages of ethanol which they said is no good for yard machines.
Bull. Percentage of Ethanol is the same thru all grades. E-10 is required as an oxygenate for better emissions. Why would the EPA allow higher octane gas to have less emissions? In your area you might have Non-Ethanol gas which usually is a higher octane. Not available around here except at marinas or near our racetracks.
Maybe that’s what they meant to say but, as usual, I misunderstood.
I replaced my two stroke weedeater a few years back with a 4 stroke version. Significantly quieter, no gas mixing and it has a ton of power. You can practically idle through thick grass. It also has enough oomph to drive an optional shrub cutting head that can power through brush and small saplings. Works great along the tree line…
