Get rid of the federal fuel tax and the highway trust fund

Do you want to talk about presidential lies? Let’s compare Barack Obama’s PolitiFact scorecard to Donald Trump’s PolitiFact scorecard, shall we?

Barack Obama:
True: 21%
Mostly True: 27%
Half True: 27%
Mostly False: 12%
False: 12%
Pants on Fire: 2%

Donald Trump:
True: 4%
Mostly True: 12%
Half True: 14%
Mostly False: 20%
False: 33%
Pants on Fire: 17%

Here is what that looks like graphed:

Wait just a minute. Our last president tried to work out a balanced budget, but congressional Republicans refused to negotiate. Nobody is attempting a coup. After all, no liberal wants to see Mike Pence become president.

Saying any criticism of President Trump amounts to challenging his legitimacy is a straw man argument meant to deflect criticism of the president, and that’s beneath you.

Politifact? OK, choose your source. How many people have died though because of lies or half truths or pants on fire? Let’s see, Libya, weaponizing Syria, a nuclear Iran, and so on. Then the white lies, you can keep your doctor, we do not spy on citizens, etc. I suppose I have lied or exaggerated too but I don’t think anyone was killed because of it.

At any rate back to roads. We must deal with current reality. Roads and bridges need work. It will take money and we may have to raise taxes. Debt levels are too high so at least we need to first balance the budget. All kinds of people will be upset, but we must support our political system and solve the problems for our grand kids if nothing else and quit trying to over-throw the government.

I agree with that. Been neglected too long. There are bridges in NH that are way past their prime and I cringe every time I have to drive over them.

Really? You’re going to bring up Libya? Do you know how many Americans died during embassy and consulate attacks during the Bush years? Do you care about those deaths, or do you only care about American diplomats dying when a Democrat is in the White House? I’m not sure why Republicans blame anyone other than the people who committed the violence, but if I was going to blame anyone else, it would be the senators and representatives who cut embassy security funding and refused to increase their budgets. Obama didn’t do that.

…and didn’t Ronald Reagan’s people get into trouble for secretly trading weapons for hostages with Iran? If you’re concerned about weaponizing the Middle East, you’re about 30 years too late.

If you have another impartial source, other than PolitiFact, you would like me to consider, I will.

My main point is that, if you have an issue with a president lying, Trump lies more often per word (spoken or tweeted) than any past president on record, by a large margin. If you have an issue with presidential lies, Trump is doing the opposite of solving that problem. He has done the opposite of bringing dignity to the White House.

Come on. You said Trump lied more. OK, but I said how many died because of it. Of course I care what happened under other administrations. You are just pivoting to avoid the issue. I voted for Obama because he ran on transparency in government but what we got was the most hidden government yet. We’ll see how Trump does but already the military see him as a breath of fresh air not micro managing every field decision for political reasons. One thing to consider though is what you may consider a lie, might actually be a set-up for folks like MSNBC. It would be a mistake to underestimate him.

What impressed me though is that Trump actually knows how many states are in the United States. That’s a good start.

Where did you hear that?

There may be SOME people in the military…but I wouldn’t suggest that it’s wide spread.

Draft dodging Trump is NOT considered in any high regards with many Vietnam Veterans. He’s a coward who hasn’t a clue about military tactics…Yet his famous speech - “I know more about ISIS then the Generals - Believe me.” He’s a complete joke.

That’s actually one thing the high-up Military personal liked about Obama.because he DIDN’T micro manage them. Unlike Chaney and Rumsfeld who wanted to micro manage every movement of the war.

What Obama did do was set policies of how the Military was to conduct themselves in war, but he never got involved in troop movements. If he did he’d be spending every waking hour and there still wouldn’t be enough time. Obama set policy and expected the Military to follow out that policy.

Now Johnson was a micro-manager president. He would actually call military movements. That’s just wrong.

What impressed me about President Obama is that he never bragged about sexually assaulting anyone to impress his friend like Donald Trump did. It’s interesting that you should bring up a gaffe because Donald Trump’s recorded confession of serial sexual assault wasn’t a gaffe, it was something he said deliberately.

Do you know what’s frustrating? I was about to tell you that I admire your ability to stick to the issues. Then I read your last paragraph, and realized you can’t.

To the historical conflicts of Protestants vs Catholics, Hatfields vs McCoys, Sunnis vs Shias we will now add Conservatives vs Progressives.

OK but gotta admit JFK’s antics were hidden pretty well. The press knew all about it but said nothing. And its rumored that Michelle kept the President on a tight leash because of his association with other women. Where is she by the way? He’s down in the Caribbean for a month by himself? So it might just be what is being reported by the press and what they choose to ignore. I have the advantage though since I voted for the guy twice. I’ll bet none of you Bush haters voted for Bush though. I make mistakes but I don’t just vote for one side of the aisle and criticize both.

I’ll try and stay on topic though. Back to road taxes.

That’s nothing! I know how Canada got its name!
CSA :scream_cat:

Yeah I talked to a friend in Taxas today, we talked about weather and he was hoping they did not have I think he said 60 days over 100 degrees last year, he said with the humidity it was miserable, now car related we had lake effect snow, had to drive to a remote location, coming back 8 cars all eastbound in the median, can not figure that one.

Hi, I couldn’t get in here today, otherwise I’d have said something a lot earlier. Last night, about 50 posts ago, this was on-topic enough. It went way off from that. Anybody care to bring it back to cars/roads/infrastructure? Thanks.

So my vote for the worst roads I’ve driven on goes for my good old home state of Pennsylvania. Clearly our highest gas tax in the country isn’t being allocated properly at PennDOT…:rage:

Thank you for returning to the original topic. Perhaps we need a dedicated political sub forum. I am a member of 2 other forums. Guns and Ammo and Commercials I Hate which have long provided that option. I’m a 1952 model natural born U.S. citizen who grew up in a political environment when Democrats and Republicans had their differences but managed to work together for the good of the people. Favorite Presidents in my life so far are Truman, Eisenhower, JFK, and Regan. Two Democrats. Two Republicans and honorable mention to H.W. Bush for his declaring end of mission when Kuwait was liberated. Today I tend to sit on the fence and see about an equal number of lies coming from both sides. Would you also welcome a political/environmental sub forum?

Civil war sucks.

I voted for GW Bush once. He lost me with the idiotic invasion of Iraq.

Sure it would suit me but I already have a bloody nose and a couple black eyes. Anything for the freedom cause though. I’ll just make one more comment if it helps. This kind of animosity and violence has been going on for quite a while. I’d have to check the specifics but this months Legion paper had a good story in it. Minneapolis is very far left and we call it the socialist republic of Minneapolis. Back about 1930 a republican war hero ran for mayor. He was threatened that he’d get his house burned down if he didn’t quit the race. He won and the next day his house was burned down.

I think Indiana’s freeways anyway are pretty bad. There seems to be construction but there are so many trucks that its humpity humpity humpity on the washboards.
