Gas consumption in reverse

LOL…Veritas via Mathmaticas…LOL

My opinions of their recommendations:

  1. Go forward. Opinion: 25%? They’re nuts.

  2. Go the speed limit. Opinion: passive rather than aggressive driving saves mileage, but many of the speed ilmits are obsolete and abiding by them has been proven to be unsafe. A few years ago an experiment was run by a college student sticktly obaying posted speed limits and the backups, anger, and aggressivenese he caused was so bad the cops had to be called and the results made the front page of the kid’s newspaper. I’d recommend driving passively but maintaining the speed limit appropriate to the normal flow of traffic.

  3. Stop idling. Opinion: unless a cars starter system has been designed to continually restart the engine over and over (like some hybrids are) you’ll be changing the starter multiple times over the life of the car.

  4. Warm up with a long drive. Opinion: when you have a multiple of chores, their suggestion makes sense.

  5. No junk in your trunk! Opinion: makes sense. No comment on the numbers they post.

  6. Avoid hard stops and starts. Opinion: I agree.
