My point is this: If the tailgate was down, would the peanuts have blown out the back. Just asking, not making a point.
Well, I suppose that’s a possibilty. My interpretation of my little “experiment” was that there was no airflow in or out of the bed, hence no peanuts leaving the bed. The air can’t go into the bed if there’s no easy way to get out, so I’d think that if the gate is open the air could easily escape out the back. I don’t think the highway department would appreciate me replicating my experiment with the gate down, though!

It is difficult to say for every model and wind condition, but, they would not have all just blow out the back right away, some would have been there rotation around for some time. How long it would have taken to get rid of all of them will vary, but I suspect most of the time it would take a lot longer than you would think. I surprised me when I first saw it.
