Frugal windshield wiper replacement ideas?

@eelise Which model of Bosch wipers did you get, they make about a half dozen models of wipers for any given car. I’ve had good luck with the Bosch Icon wiper blades.

I’ve had good luck with the Bosch Icon blades, too.

@jtsanders: You’d still have to dry yourself with something. I guess you could use the drapes :slight_smile:

"I don’t know if anyone’s said this so far, but I have to: Wiper blades are pretty cheap–why not just spend the $20 and replace them! "
@oblivion–I agree with you 100%.
This isn’t the place to cheap out. I once purchased some Roberk refills for my car and these didn’t work well at all. Wiper blades are not the big expense in maintaining a car.

I’ve had nightmarish experiences with refills. Probably just didn’t know the right size to get. One set kept sliding out of the brackets and I would have to get out and slide it back in. Another one completely came out and the bracket put two big, arc shaped scratches on the windshield. Several years ago, I started using Latitude and/or Icon beam blades. One winter with them and I was sold! Trying to save $10 a year just isn’t worth the aggravation.

A few times, I had to pinch the blades with some pliers, because the refills were a little bit too narrow. But once that was done, they never slid out

I’ve only tried factory refills. I have no experience with aftermarket refills, because the overwhelming majority of local parts stores don’t have them

I do do know know what kind of bosch - I thought it just went by size and they are not the same size what ever is needed for a subaru legacy.

I live in the desert and rarely use windshield wipers. Sitting out in the hot sun (no garage) damages the blades, even melting them to the windshield, so I took a discarded bicycle inner tube and cut 4 pieces that I install over the blades to protect them. I have to remember to take them off if it looks like rain, but that happens rarely enough. San Jose is pretty dry.

I have bought wiper blades before that came with alcohol prep pad to clean the wiper before putting them into service, I do not remember the brand. Like anything else, you usually get what you pay for, get some good ones. Alot of times I think it is a false economy to buy chinese tires, wiper blades ect… Unless you are unloading the car and want to say it has new tires on it.

Chinese tires are for my Wheel barrow, Not my car.

“Chinese tires are for my Wheel barrow”
@WheresRick–If you go racing through your yard with a load of bricks in you wheelbarrow, you will wish that it hadn’t been equipped with a Chinese tire.,

8 pages on wiper blades. How many pages will something serious have?

Thanks for the suggestion for Auto zone - they were near by and quick and easy. I got Bosch blades- I don’t think these were the cheapest - but love them. Even the guy who put them in said my intact blade looks pretty good even after 9 years- so I guess I am easy on wiper blades- great suggestion thanks!
