Ford 02 mustang wont start

My car wont start. It turns over and has fuel pressure. Battery read 10.2 v. Its been having trouble starting in the mornings but it eventually will start. It has been starting to overheat when the ac is on while im driving. It almost overheated one day but didnt shut the car off. Computer popped a p1285 code about a month ago when the car was still starting fine. Any suggestions. Im at a gas station right now sitting in my car. Pretty stressful situation.

Nevermind. It was my key triggering the security system. Tried my spare key and it started

Welcome to the forum…

Glad you got it started, but sounds like you still need to replace the battery before it leaves you stranded… And unless you are ready to buy new head gasket(s) and or possible head(s), you might want to repair the over heating issue also… Much cheaper to repair it now then later with the added cost of a damaged engine…

OP, a car battery measuring only 10.2 volts indicates a serious problem. It should measure about 12.6 volts. If you are certain about the accuracy of that voltage measurement, suggest you take your Mustang asap to a good shop for a battery/charging system assessment. That test is usually not overly expensive, they probably have a machine just for that purpose. Chain stores that sell batteries sometimes will provide this test free, with the hope the battery tests faulty and customer buys the replacement battery there.

Most likely the meter has the problem, a battery at 10.2 volts wouldn’t be able to crank the engine.
