Here’s a picture of the new car. The sales guy said if I wanted, I can do the first oil change at 1,000 miles and that’s fine but it would have to count as one of my free oil changes under the complimentary Toyota Care. I asked him what he would do if it was his car and he said he’d probably wait until 5,000 miles to do the first oil change. I’m going to read through my new owners manual tomorrow and see what information I can get
Do not do a 1000 mile change. Complete waste of money.
Learned something new, so they separate tire rotation with oil change on Toyotas, and still recommend rotation at every 5000 miles. Good to know.
Here’s a good video on the light bulb industry, how they got together and reduced their life spans because they were selling less light bulbs:
Different industry I know, but still an interesting concept.
Yea if owners manual doesn’t say to do it, wouldn’t bother. But if it only cost you the price of oil and filter and you do yourself, hey for $50 or so and some time, and if it makes you happy, why not. But $129, is a bit much for something that is probably not necessary.
Is that the cost for your old car using 5W-30 engine oil? The price for the 10,000-mile service with 0W-20 synthetic oil is usually close to $200.
This new Corolla uses 0W-8 engine oil, the MSRP is $20 per quart, services for this car will be $100 more than you were paying on the old car.
We just got a 24 Corolla LE with 2 miles, dealer gave us 3 years free oil changes and tire rotation. The car required 0W-8 I want to change it by 5000 mile but for now I can’t find in the market that type of oil not even the dealer parts department, maybe months from now but of course pricey.I’m the 5k/6months DIY. My plan to stay on required oil for warranty.
Yes price for old car. I don’t know yet what it will be for the new car
2 miles is what mine had too
No DIY for me. All service will be done at a Toyota dealership
The manufacture pays for the first two oil changes, how many did your dealer offer to provide?
One extra … 10k/year interval
I’m presuming the problem is this oil is newly spec’d for the 2024 Corolla . You made a good decision on deciding to purchase the Corolla imo, not just b/c of Toyota’s reputed reliability. There are so many Corolla’s on the road, bound to be good parts & fluids availability for years and years. Seems highly unlikely you won’t be able to find the correct oil by the time you need it. You’ll probably be able to buy it at your local Walmart.
Just curious, your 24 LE is configured with an inline-4 non-turbo engine right? With CVT transmission? Is it true they don’t even offer a manual transmission now? I presume it isn’t a hybrid design, right?
It’s easier to get someone to change their religion than it is to get them to change their mind on oil change intervals.
Millions and millions of vehicles have been running fine for years using the manufacturers recommendations on when to change the oil. And Europe started with the extended oil change intervals 10-15 years before the USA did.
While there will always be stories of engines that don’t do well with extended oil change intervals, the world hasn’t fallen apart.
As others have stated, do whatever helps you sleep best at night.
When I was just a kid I remember sitting at the kitchen table and listen to my dad and bro-in-law argue about engine oil … lol … I was always wondering why they held such strong opinions about this subject , b/c neither were educated or worked in an oil-product related field. And they didn’t seem to argue about anything else. Their favorite topic to argue about was whether oil should be changed b/c it is dirty, or b/c it “breaks down”. The latter being a particularly touchy subject. One would say “yes, it does break down”, the other “no, oil is just a chemical & never breaks down”!!!
I think the one item that seems to keep popping up is VVT. Not like the engines of 20 years ago.
They do offer a Hybrid Corolla but sadly the Manual transmission’s only on the GR Corolla with the Turbo 3cyl and AWD that’s from the GR Yaris sold in Europe.
With CVT and regular engine. We have 06 Corolla LE with 148k and Matrix at 190k.
No one has mentioned waxing or paint protection. I wax and polish twice a year, but do what you want.
That’s because it’s not the subject matter.
Tester
Thanks for the suggestion. Ill have it professionally waxed and polished twice a year
OK, I’m at a bit of a loss for words, your first inquiry was the initial oil change… and that simple question generated 80-responses (this being the 80th…), and now you do not care enough for your new baby to perform the most basic care yourself… If you are going to trust someone else to wax, to polish, to vacuum, to clean the glass, in other words, someone else to care for your car, why would you not trust the dealership’s recommendation for oil changes?
