Family Car Debate

An 80’s Land Cruiser was a fairly reliable vehicle some 30 years ago. Any vehicle that old just isn’t reliable unless it’s ha a complete frame off restoration. Which would put the cost more then a new SUV. even imif you could find one that’s running great -it still isn’t worth it. Parts will be extremely difficult to find. They never made a lilot of these vehicles.

You will get the best value for your money with a compact car. Buy the newest one you can afford that is in excellent condition. With any car that is over 7 years old or so, make and model is not as important and how it was maintained. You can afford to be picky as long as your Subie is still running. Get on the hunt now.

Amen to that:

Crash Test 1959 Chevrolet Bel Air VS. 2009 Chevrolet Malibu (Frontal Offset) IIHS 50th Anniversary

Head-On Collision (1962 Cadillac vs. 2002 Cadillac)

From a question like this I get the image of someone living in an isolated part of the world without paved roads or access to late model vehicles.

In the southwest U.S. a classic FJ40/FJ45 pre-1985 Landcruiser will cost as much as an eight year old average sedan. Add the cost of parts and tools to keep it drivable and this becomes impractical in an area where used cars are plentiful and inexpensive.
