F-150 with pealing Clear Coat

98 F-150 has a slight clear coat Leprosy problem. Any suggestions on how to fix this, or am I doomed to sand it down to the primer and start over? Do they make a clear caot remover that i can use to remove all teh clear coat then start over?

I’m afraid anything you use to remove the clear coat will also remove the base coat. Easiest thing is to chemically strip to bare metal and start again rather than sand.

One a ten-year-old vehicle, I would wet sand all the affected panel with 1200 grit paper, and reapply clearcoat with spray cans.

I’ve done this and then followed it up after it cures with a polishing compound on a hand drill buffing attachment with excellent success, however in my case there was no adhesion issue between the paint and the clear coat. It’s worth doing, but you may have more peeling.

By the way, if you can find a sponge buffing pad (use very wet with the polishing compound) it does a much better job.
