Extended warranty

My Toyota Tacoma has 72,000 miles. I currenty have an extended warranty which is coing to run out in about 8,000 miles. I would like to extend it futher, any ideas where I can purchase another warranty.

Save your money.

Extended warranties are primarily profit for the seller, and usually offer little real protection for the buyer. Put the money in the bank instead, that way if you need it you still have it, and if you don’t need it you still have it.

If you give the money to a warranty salesperson, he or she has it.

I suggest you read the fine print of any warranty you are considering. If you do you will see how little is actually covered.

Have you paid that insurance company more than they paid in repairs? Almost everyone does.

Well any car can have major expensive repairs.

The profit to the salesman and company is usually over 50%. So for every $1,000 you spend the insurance company has less than $500 to pay for repairs or they will loose money, something insurance companies do not do. Some peop;le will get nothing back and some will get a lot more than they pay. Most will get far less. In addition you need to keep in mind that the insurer has worded it to eliminate as many expensive things as they can.

Remember that the seller is out to make money and they get to write the rules and set the price. They are not going to sell them at a loss so one way or another they are going to have you pay more than they will pay out.

Would you gamble with a car dealer who gets to set all the rules and knows all the odds?

Your decision has to do with the value of the piece of mind it gives you. If that is worth the cost then buy it. Don't expect it to cover everything however, most are written to keep cost down and exempt what they know will cost them money.

Good Luck

Gee if you think the Tacoma is so bad that somethings going to break then why did you buy it??

The “google” extended warranty will put some data in reach.I don’t buy them myself but I have worked on plenty of cars that extended warranty paid the bill, the area I have seen them used most is AC and transmissions, people get disapointed when they don’t cover “secondary systems”, diagnostics, failures due to wear, disassembly for diagnosis and a big one immediate rental car, read carefully.
