Ever witnessed a bad car accident?

Oversteer can be induced on RWD or FWD. I have done it with both. I have driven FWD, RWD, AWD, and true four wheel drive, parked between the lines with all of them. The dictionary definition is fine, if you understand the definition.

Well, clearly, the car in the video is attempting to park.

@jabberjaw_192049 oversteer and understeer have no effect on parking unless… You are parking on an ice rink or at 60 mph on asphalt.

ALL modern RWD cars understeer. It is safer. ALL modern FWD cars understeer. It is safer.

With equal wheelbase lengths, a RWD car can usually turn tighter than a FWD or AWD car because it has fewer parts to get in the way. Ackerman steering enters into this as well… I won’t explain this because you can just go to wikipedia and read about it there.

ANY modern 2 axle car, truck, SUV can park in ONE space IF the driver knows how to park.

Meriam Webster is correct in the definition of oversteer however… the AMOUNT of oversteer (or understeer) depends on how much lateral (G forces) force is applied to the tire. Turn at low speed slowly, virtually zero effect. Turn at high speeds, the effect is greater. Apply power and that changes the equation FWD, AWD or RWD

Understeer or oversteer has NO EFFECT on parking.

Having developed and raced both FWD and RWD cars, either can be made to under or oversteer by design or by driver inputs.

I currently have 3 rwd (2 trucks, 1 fun car) vehicles and 4 fwd vehicles, not that much different except for the wheel base is different, wheel base is the biggest factor in parking/driving any of them…
BTW, I am used to driving all of them…

Thank you!
I wonder if that person will continue to argue his/her totally incorrect claim, even after your very complete explanation.

Doit while you can. Kids can’t even ice-skate on ponds/lakes around here anymore. Last year was the first year of our towns small lake actually froze over enough to skate on in almost 2 decades. But it only lasted a week. We use to have hocky tournaments on that lake that lasted a few weeks. Also I fishing derby’s were very common. Not anymore.

I’ve driven RWD, FWD, 4WD, AWD with front bias, AWD with rear bias, staggered wheels, offset front and rear, you name it. They all definitely handle differently while driving. They all handle exactly the same while parking.

You don’t drive 40mph and make sweeping turns in a parking garage. You’re doing 3mph, and at that speed there is no difference between any of the drive configurations. Either you can park between the lines or you can’t.

I would like to try that on the spiral ramps in parking garages!
I want to be reincarnated as a movie stunt driver!
