If your grandmother bought a car from Sears, it was an Allstate. This car was made for Sears by Kaiser and was essentially Kaiser’s Henry J with slightly different trim. The Henry J only produced 1951, 1952 and 1953 models. I think Allstate was only produced as a 1952 model before it was dropped.

My VW had no gas gage. Drove until the engine sputtered then use your right foot to turn a small lever on the firewall for the auxiliary tank.

How about the pre-war cars where you could open the bottom of the windshield for fresh air

The Nissan Versa we bought (brand new) 2 years ago came with…
a manual transmission, manual windows, no A/C & no radio.

we joke that it DID come with a spare tire.

A friend transplanted the radio from the car we drove the wheels off of. & A/C in upstate NY is a waste of money anyway…

40 MPG is not bad, not bad at all…

My old 1970 Ford Maverick came without a glove compartment. It had a long package shelf under the dash. But you could by a door from J C Whitney to enclose it.

I remember commercials on tv from a used car dealer including a cordless cigarette lighter on the list of features!

@Harried Harry

If i remember correctly, I had a 1966 Old’s Vista Cruiser wagon with a 33o cu.in. California car and it had an air injection (smog) pump.
