That’s all well and good, but the next time that they encounter an electronic road sign that is displaying an important warning message, they could wind-up causing a fatal accident.
What kind of potentially dangerous warning dynamic sign have you seen?
I’ve been on the road every day since the past 2 decades. My commute is usually 18 miles to and another 18 miles back. I drove to Floridian once from NY. I do see dynamic signs everywhere but none that would put anyone at risk, as long as they’re paying attention to the road and their surroundings.
Dynamic signs that I regularly see state the weather condition, road construction, speed limit reduce warning, etc, all of which can be followed by observing read conditions.
Back in the day when there was no dynamic signs people went about their business just fine.
Does someone need to pass a proficiency test in any language to know that u-turning a semi across a busy 4-lane turnpike is a stupid thing to do?
The driver showed blatant disregard for not only the law but for common sense and safety. If he had passed a written proficiency test, would he have somehow exercised better judgement in this instance?
Not guaranteed. How often do we hear of highly educated people making dumb decisions on the road resulting in crashes ? Too many times. Very rarely do we hear of an illiterate driver causing havoc on the road, and the only reason this trucker is getting attention is because of politics as pointed out by another member above.
This is why we as drivers must drive with the understanding that people are ought to kill us on the road. Driving defensively is very important.
P.s. I can’t seem to process why the minivan driver could not see a huge truck blocking the entire highway in front of him. It looks to me that the minivan driver was distracted. Of course, I’m not blaming him, and the trucker made a dangerously and fatally mistake; I just feel like the minivan coukd have prevented the collision.
“Special Event Ahead - Expect Delays” (Your ice cream could melt)
When a scrolling information alert sign shows; crash 5 miles ahead, use alternate route, I usually miss half of the scrolling message while trying to watch the road.
Oh my goodness, Nevada. I too often miss half the message from a dynamic sign from keeping my eyes on the road. As for alternative route, when that happens, I usually come upon signs with arrows pointing where I need to go.

‘Faced With Trump’s English Mandate, Mexico’s Truckers Report to ClassYou can input the URI into archive.is to circumvent the paywall.Companies, fearing penalties that could put them out of business, race to make sure their drivers have enough English to communicate with U.S. officials.’
An English couple had a head-on on Nevada 95, that north-south road up the west side of Nevada. Cops suspected he forgot he was in the US.
BTW, sometime those signs lie. Returning to the mainland from a beach side watering hole, there was a sign on the causeway: “Right lane closed ahead”, I get in the left lane, the right lane was not closed or obstructed in any fashion.
Signs on the interstate, no way to read the entire message. Might get “Silver Alert, 73 year old” then you are past the sign.
Very few signs require English. Same with Americans driving in other countries, you don’t need to know a foreign language to read most signs.
I’d say this very important sign requires knowledge of the English language
If you’ve got a CDL and are driving a large commercial vehicle, ignoring this one could prove to be a very big problem
+1
This is precisely why I never drive when I’m in Europe. I have a decent facility with the Spanish language, and I can understand a few things in both French and German, but the probability of encountering road signs that I can’t quickly decipher keeps me from getting behind the wheel when I’m overseas. Even in The UK, between having to drive on “the wrong side” of the road, and having to deal with different traffic regulations, I choose to take taxis, trains, and buses.
Me thinks the more Clueless posts the more he proves that it is a good thing he is not driving.
It has EVERYTHING to do with the state, not ALL states will issue a CDL to undocumented immigrants…
It is NOT the test in question, that is standard, it is what states will issue a CDL…
States that issue CDL’s to undocumented immigrants as well as states that do not…
Sorry, but stealing, murder, drunk driving, crime in general is NOT a political thing (unless y’all want to make it that way), it is a legal thing… Laws are meant for both sides, 3 if you include Independents… lol
TN is very strict on CDL’s, my brother has to pass a physical every 2 years, they measure his neck, if too big he can’t drive again, if his PB is above X (not much room for error), can’t drive, overweight, no more driving, etc etc etc they are failing and getting ride of lots of drivers…
My BIL drives out of Utah and is wayyy overweight, high BP, had a heart attack while over the road and still has his CDL, so another example of being in a State that is not picky…

It has EVERYTHING to do with the state, not ALL states will issue a CDL to undocumented immigrants…
It has nothing to do with if they can speak english or not. The vast majority of tractor trailer accidents are from English speaking US truck drivers. There are US citizens who don’t speak english (or at least very well).
Not being political sir, besides I hadn’t seen any complaints about others making comments about the CDL test… I will gladly quote them if you would like me too… I am no more making this political than others have…
I am sorry that you are reading more into this than it is, I simply showed what states issue CDL to undocumented immigrants, if you want to go through and color them red and blue, that is on you…
FWIW I thought this Thread should have been been deleted from the beginning…

It has EVERYTHING to do with the state, not ALL states will issue a CDL to undocumented immigrants
No state can issue a CDL to undocumented immigrants. You either need to be a citizen, permanent resident (green card) or if you are legally authorized to work here.

No state can issue a CDL to undocumented immigrants
I guess that proves that the source of the article does promote “Fake News”.
My dream job was to be a truck driver. 98% of my family on my father’s side are truckers. We are born with the drive within us to be truckers and I’m no exception.
I did go for my CDL and got denied due to my physical disability. I was so upset that day ( I’m sure Volvo is thanking the Lord here ) and I saw my purpose on the earth wasted away.
Every single day when I see the 18 wheeler and other trucks of its kind on the road I would feel a sense of hopelessness. I am confident I was born to be a trucker. It’s within me and it drives me nuts.
I did drive my friend’s big bus on the island illegally for convenience and go for joyrides. Those guys back on the island would tell me that I would eventually become either a trucker or a bus driver but none of that happened due to legal and medical reasons.
I see on YouTube a man without legs is given a CDL and he drives pretty good. However, he’s mightily strong, muscular, whereas I’m fragile.
Sucks.
