What happens if you use solid lifters with a hyd. cam? good or bad.

It seems to me that a camshaft designed for hydraulic lifters is made of softer material than a camshaft designed for solid lifters. I think there is a real possibility that you would wear down the lobes of the hydraulic camshaft using solid lifters.

Camshaft material is not the problem…The problem is the hydraulic cam as no clearance ramps…It’s impossible to to set the valve lash without getting A LOT of valve noise…

You hit the real reason. I had forgotten that the hydraulic camshaft had no clearance ramps. With solid lifters, one would run the risk of wearing down the lobes. This was the reason for not using the hydraulic cam and not the material. I knew there was some reason.
