The engineering field seems rife with people who have almost no Social Emotional Intelligence (SEI). I have also dealt with people that will say- “he’s an idiot” and have no idea why someone would take exception to that. They think they are just speaking the truth, why would they get upset? The other issue is they often have no concept of how to present themselves in a way that does not rub people the wrong way. Body language, tone and language choices all contribute to how someone else perceives what you are saying. The old saying- everything in life is a sales job is true. Consistently rubbing people the wrong way, intentional or not, is going to result in frustration and not achieve the desired goal…however, some personality types just cannot imagine role reversal and how they would feel in the other shoe. I had a guy on one of my teams that had Asperger’s and could not improve his SEI no matter how much we both tried working on it. He made many contributions to our company’s IP over the years but could not survive in a team environment for very long before everyone was tired of him…
I don’t know where to start. Yeah Mensa is like a very fast computer with a lot of memory. That doesn’t mean the answers are any better though.
I was warned about lg appliances so just continued with whirlpool some more. No better or worse but so far fine with local service. I buy the top load washers not front load but I used the cleaner every month. In the dishwasher too.
I don’t remember everything in the last 200 comments except geez if you don’t like someone, just ignore the post. The analysis is just as bad as the comments.
YES! The Truth sayers are being told they are incorrect or don’t understand or even that we are having “wrong thoughts”.
My wife is really sensitive to some of this especially when I bring up facts things her family has done that have wronged me or things her mother had said.
FACT- Her usually refers to my wife’s brother as “Poor Billy”
FACT- Billy uses a plant that is illegal in this State and will preclude you from several jobs that require drug testing.
FACT-Billy doesn’t work much and tends to have money problems.
So I take these well known facts and say something like “maybe Poor Billy should try to quit that and try working a bit more and see if his financial situation improves”
Saying stuff such as this really upsets her, especially when I tell her that her mom favors Poor Billy.
Seems Truth sayers have fallen out of fashion!
Is this “Poor Billy” in terrible physical and/or emotional pain?
Does he have a terminal illness?
From what I understand, some conditions are so severe, that the substance you’re alluding to is one of the few things that brings any kind of relief
In what context and/or insinuation please?
It’s a joke!!!
At least snicker a bit or crack a smile…
Sarcasm? I hope.
That was JDI’s (Don Imus) secret: It was always difficult to tell when he was in satire/parody mode or was being stone cold.
Yes, but the Sun revolving around the earth was considered a fact by many people.
You have to go back to 2017 to understand the use of “alternate facts”.
Science is forever evolving.
+1
That is why medical advice/opinions frequently change, over time. New discoveries lead to new knowledge, and that leads to new/different advice. The earlier advice wasn’t necessarily wrong at the time. It was just the best advice that could have been given at the time.
Kind of like drum brakes, throttle cables and carburetors were fine at one time . . .
But there’s better stuff out there now ![]()
I’m fully aware of that phrase. I’m glad I’m not on that side of history, in 2016, 2020, or ‘24.
Oh I know, the initial response was to “well known facts”.
Plenty of new vehicles still use drums brakes. Even more new Semi trucks use drums brakes.
Many new electric cars use drums brakes…why? Less drag and efficiency. Disc brakes rely on a dodgy square cut seal to help retract the piston little. The rest is done in a manner that would qualify for a 1920s silent film comedy act. The runout on the disc, and theres ALWAYS runout because disc brakes naturally like to shudder and warp, runout on the disc slaps the pads back. Drum brakes are like a Swiss watch in comparison.
Efficiency doesn’t get outdated, formulas snd equations do not get outdated.
Please name one new car or SUV that uses drums on the front, where it counts.
I have no idea where you got the idea drums don’t warp
I’ve cut my fair share
Not a one. However on big trucks that need to stop 80k lbs drums are still used because thats really where it counts.
