My automatic transmission won’t stay in park. I force the shift lever into park to remove the key. When I restart the van the indicator shows that I’m in reverse. sometimes the vehicle rolls back and makes a ratcheting sound. This is the second transmission in the vehicle. The origional went out at about 120,000. The remanufactured transmission has about 55,000 miles on it.
You definately need to get the park mechanism checked. Your issue could be anything from a linkage to the park pawl itself. It would be impossible for us to tell you exactly what it is without looking at it first. Get it checked, this is a safety issue. Until then, make sure your parking brake works.

Thanks for the info. I just found out the my parking brake is frozen too. Looks like it time to spend some bucks.
