40 years ago they were decent. Especially their Dewalt line. I still own a 1960’s Dewalt radial arm saw. Still runs PERFECT.
As for today…total JUNK…But unfortunately most tool manufacturers have declined in years.

Been through that same thing at menards with a laser level! Lifetime replacement, sorry we don’t stock it anymore, Lifetime means nothing, Car wash Lifetime washes $48, I did not buy it but 2 months later they were out of business. The new ripoff scheme in my book!
I’ve never used Black and Decker in the shop. All of the B & D stuff has been home use only. My 40+ year old B & D 1/2" drill still works great in spite of being flogged to death. A B & D saber saw I had was beaten unmercifully for 35 years before dying.
About 8 or 9 years ago I bought an assortment of B & D drills and saber saws over a 1.5 year period. Two didn’t work right out of the box and all of the others died after a use period of between 5 minutes and 3 hours. The last saber saw fried itself (while being easily used cuttiing thin masonite) after 20 miinutes. At that point I didn’t even take it back. Just chunked it in the trash and improved my life immensely by never buying anymore of their junk.
I don’t know where the rumor that craftman is going to replace kobalt got started. To the best of my knowledge it is just not true. Yes I agree that craftsman hand tools are no more premium than Harbor freight hand tools. Not sure about the cordless.
Not a rumor, read the original and following posts. My local (and other) Lowes is, indeed, replacing Kobalt with junk Craftsman tools.
Well Lowes is under new management and doing a lot of other stuff that may prove not very productive. Kinda like the wrong move Target made a few years ago. CEOs come and go, collect their bonuses and leave the skeletons of their organizations behind in the dust. Interesting how Sears is suing Sears because valuable property was sold off. Duh, what was the expectation?
Not if the proceeds when to the management company, not to Sears.
