Agree 100%. Certain group of people want to be able to say ANYTHING without any criticism for what they say. And then when someone does criticize them they say their rights to say anything is being trotted on. And it’s the exact opposite. They want the ability to say anything and then take away the rights of anyone saying anything against what they said. Sad - so Sad.
And the worst stupidity is WILLFUL stupidity, we see sooo much of that these days.
But the consumer type does direct drivers of 13 foot trucks under 12 foot bridges (12 /11 foot ??) quite frequently. I can think of a certaun bridge in Portchester NY that gets smacked so much It is a tribute to old style stone bridge engineering that it is still standing.

But the consumer type does direct drivers of 13 foot trucks under 12 foot bridges They do make GPS unit’s for truck’s that can be programed for size and weight of the truck that will avoid those situation’s but for more $$$ than the one of the shelf of a big box store. One of my pet peeves is the overpass that is marked with what the clearance is marked is it was right when it was built but was never remarked after repaving that make’s it lower than marked. As far as truck’s hitting low clearence overpass’s or overhang’s at gas station’s don’t get me started on rental truck’s.
and of course warning signs before a 4 lane bridge. T he consumer ones (google) are free…
In NY state, under passes are marked a foot lower than they measure except in special circumstances where the sign must pe posted ACTUAL HEIGHT. The company that I worked the longest had the highest mounted 5the wheels of any company I ever saw, possibly because we hauled some tremendous overloads.
When we hauled other companies 13’ 6" trailers we sometimes took down the street lights.
We have one low bridge around here that eats a couple trucks every year. Flashing lights, big signs and so on but still gets them. The last one was a turkey truck on it’s way to the turkey plant so there were some surprised turkeys. Like cows, it’s not a good idea to excite them before chopping their heads off. Makes for bad flavor.
Minnesota is having the same issue with driver’s tests though, but so far our gov has been a real (blank). For commercial licenses they have devised putting a camera in the tractor to view driver response, then the examiner follows behind the truck in another vehicle. It’s a non-contact activity. For regular licenses though, they haven’t quite figured out how to do that so kids are waiting. God save the queen.
I do remember the NY underpasses being that way it scared me the first time I saw one marked that way I pulled onto the shoulder to try to figure out what to do a few minute’s later another truck came by and told me what was going on. I think NY is the only state that way as I can not remember seeing it in any other state or Canada.
WI is now added to the list of you can get a license without a test.
Route 63 is a 2 lane shortcut that saves 25 miles off the route from Buffalo to Harrisburg PA and points South. There is an underpass on a long downhill just before it crosses Route 19 that is paved with rubber from all the out of state or country drivers tryijg to stop before the underpass that is marked 12’ 11".
There’s a RR bridge in Liverpool NY (right outside Syracuse)…it’s LOW. One time approaching that bridge in my car I counted at least 10 signs. They also have a warning system with flashing lights for any truck it detects is too high. The bridge is very low (10’ 9").
I remember this case, he was not looking at road signs, he was depending on his designed for cars gps. Also, it is a parkway, there are supposed to be NO trucks on it.
