Confused

Gentlemen. I own a 1992 Ford Taurus SHO. The problem I am confused about is this. From time to time I am driving and my check engine lights comes on and about a half second later the power drops out on the engine. Then sometimes the check engine light goes out and about the same time the engine’s power picks back up. Its like the engine loses a cylinder. When I hook up the old style computer it does not have any fails in it. Is there a way I can keep this from happening?

I would start checking battery cables (remove each one both ends and clean them and reattach them. If they look in poor condition they may have an internal issue and need to be replaced. There certainly are other possibilities, but the cables are cheap to clean and if needed replace. It would not be unusual for a 1992 car.
