Car talk on chopping block?

Swept, mopped, replaced those cloth rolls, cleaned the stools, urinals, sinks, mirrors, etc. no gloves either back then, but I lived.

Ever notice how this site is posting our posts multiple times?

That is a glitch in the forum, it clears up after you refresh the screen.

Complaints about that started 1 1/2 years ago.

That’s your opinion and NOT backed by evidence. PBS and NPR are and have been a great service to our communities.

I still watch PBS; Frontline, Independent lens, Finding Your Roots. I am usually disappointed and walk away from the television. Nova is still good.

I have listened to NPR while road testing vehicles when the customer left the radio tuned to that station. The discussions did not impress me.

Yeah it’s all our opinion. I don’t remember th3 details but roots had some major research issues. And Ken burns is laughed at from real civil war historians. Oh yeah and who was the science guy again, bill Nye? I used to watch mr. Wizard back in the day and that was good, but the fall has been great.

I said attendant not cleaner. It was intentional. You know, those people that stand there waiting to hand you a towel and expecting a tip afterward? It loses some of the humor if you have to explain it…

Can’t say I have run into an attendant much in th3 US but Europe everywhere. I’m sure I have once or twice but can’t recall where. Yeah I’ve seen a lady sitting at th3 table collecting their 20 pence before Letting you in to a fully enclosed booth but really Boston i# th3 only place here I’ve seen that charge and no attendant. Clearly you are a man of distinction to come up with that.

Yup! That is quite common in Europe. On the same topic, it’s not unusual in Italy for women to be cleaning the men’s room while men are present. On several occasions, a Grandma-type was mopping the floor next to a line-up of men by the urinals at rest stops on The Autostrada.

When regular maintenance staff at my last job were out sick or on vacation, I cleaned all restrooms as part of early morning quarters, along with vaccuuming the front foyer carpet, sweeping the sales floor, and thought nothing of it.

I just blocked access to the mens or womens room with the yellow maintenance cart (combination waste collector, cleaning supplies, and mop/bucket platform) during cleaning.

Oh, an aristocrat, eh? Clearly, at the higher end restaurants you see attendants in the rest rooms as well as table side ready to sweep crumbs away should one happen to soil the tablecloth (I hate that hovering stuff) but around here it is also not uncommon to see bathroom attendants in the high volume venues like an amusement park for example where the environment might devolve into medieval conditions if not continuously kept up.

Then I assume you agree I see no reason to pay for government highways in your area I will never use. Willing to pay for your own?

I kind of think you started it.

Does that include unions? After all they get raises and promotions based on seniority not merit.

In reference to…?

Good to know that Car Talk is not on the chopping block. :+1::+1::+1:

As a taxpayer, I was shocked to learn just how huge the CPB tax funding has been.

That said, I am hoping that much of PBS programming will continue being available somewhere that I am able to access on my personal budget. For decades, PBS has been my primary primetime TV choice. Shows such as Nature, Nova, American Experience, Masterpiece Theatre / Mystery, along with hundreds of other programs over the years have been so enjoyable. Shows such as those about lighthouses, railway journeys, national parks and lodges of the national parks, architecture, sciences, histories of many sorts, travel shows from around the world, etc. etc. etc. So, yes, if PBS survives such it still can show such an array of quality programming, I shall be a happy camper. If not, I foresee it becoming challenging for me to view such favorites on my budget.

IIRC you live around St Louis. I looked up the financial statements at Nine PBS. In 2024, government funding was 15.3% of the total. Much, if not all, can be made up with business and personal contributions. Any shortfall will mean reduced programming, but it won’t all go away.
