I wonder how many other engines have an external gasket for the cam carrier. Don’t most just have the valve cover gasket and the head gasket? Seems like an extra failure mode avoided by most makers.
Subaru makes it simple, actually.
At the first sign of real engine trouble pull the engine and replace a laundry list of “while you’re in there” stuff.
Might as well include head gaskets.
I guess I could live with that every 100K miles or so, but not at 64K.
