Can worn out ignition coils damage the spark plugs, and vice-versa

I’d love to hear the community’s thoughts on a theory my mechanic shared after diagnosing 4 worn spark plugs and 2 faulty ignition coils in my 4-cylinder car.

The first theory is that the two defective ignition coils caused excessive wear on all four spark plugs. The spark plugs were new, but they needed to be replaced after only 2,000 miles due to this wear.

However, another mechanic suggested the opposite scenario: that the spark plugs were already worn out and damaged the two ignition coils.

Which of these two theories is more likely to be the cause of the issue?

Thanks for your insights!

A too wide of a spark plug gap can cause coils to be damaged.

What is the year, make and model, engine and mileage of the vehicle??

Was the correct (same as OEM that came in it when new) spark plugs used??

Where were the spark plugs bought, lots of junk fake spark plugs on eBay and Amazon and even Rock Auto…

Had the coils every been replaced?? some junk ones out there…

Yes a bad or worn out and or wrong spark plug can damage an ignition coil… as mentioned above post…

An ignition coil not firing the plug correctly can load up/foul out the new spark plugs… Most shops are not going to take the time to clean and check the gap of a used spark plug…
