A few years back, a polite 17 yr old in our town got a speeding ticket he felt was unfair. He was speeding but was following traffic including a state trooper traveling just as fast.
He goes to court to dispute the ticket. The judge asks him to talk about himself, with questions about high school, activities, life goals, etc. The young man mentions he expects to reach Eagle scouts in 4-6 months.
The judge then begins to ask him detailed questions about scouting, including name the different ranks, how many merit badges are required for Eagle, etc.
The judge then told him to come back after he reaches Eagle and to bring his paperwork, saying he’ll rip up the ticket then.
The reason the judge asks detailed questions is to prevent any youth from saying they’re working on reaching Eagle scout just to get out of a ticket.
