Buying First Car(~15k)

I also used to enjoy driving my stick-shift cars–until I had to start driving into Manhattan on a regular basis.
A manual trans is annoying in the “usual” stop & go traffic that one can experience in the metro area, but once you have to drive in gridlock conditions, it is the antithesis of “fun”.

Yeah, while learning to drive a stick may be a useful skill to learn and I insisted that both my kids learn to drive on a 4 cyl stick shift Neon, the negatives outway the positives especially in a Metro area

While there’s potentially more “control” and the “cool factor”, it’s quickly disappated by the “left foot limp” from half an hour “rowing” in stop and go traffic and for new drivers, the terrors of the “backwards drift and stallout” at a steep uphill stoplight.
Tough enough to deal with on a light car with a 4 or 6 cyl but on a V8 with a heavy duty clutch?
