The check engine light recently came on in my Passat. The dealer says I need a new brake vaccum pump & vaccum hose. Is this a repair I need to address immediately?
The power brakes work by vacuum assist. Without vacuum from the pump you will not have power brakes. The car will be VERY hard to stop without power brakes.
Brakes are important. Get it fixed.
Does that trigger a CEL???
Thats what I was wondering about the CEL. I may take it to just a mechanic to make sure that the Dealer isn’t trying to rip me off. I had it in for a major service at my typical dealer (now out of town) about 3 months ago and i’m pretty sure they would have “warned” me if they saw something that major coming.
