Do you have any idea of what it would cost to put a new rear brake line in a Chevrolet S-10 pickup?
The year will really make a difference, because on a newer truck you’ll be able to actually buy the line pre-made, but on an older truck you’ll have to have it fabricated. It also very much depends on how accessable the line is, how long it is and how many bends there are in it.
If you do it yourself, you can do it for about $20 in generic brake line (you bend it to shape) and brake fluid. If the flex hose has to be replaced, maybe another $20.
Thanks for the answers. I should have mentioned that it is a 1997 model with 84,000 miles on it. The dealer said that there was a lot of corrosion and since it would cost about $1500 including the line, calipers, etc. that he did not think it was worth it.
Pay an independent mechanic/shop about $200 to put generic brakes lines on it. Run from the dealer!
