Back in the 80s many VWs used a plastic vacuum resevoir that was mounted to the underside of the hood.
This resevoir resembled one of those cardboard egg containers at the grocery store.
The service manager had a new VW demonstrator to drive and had the hood up one weekend at home looking things over, checking the fluids, etc.
His elderly lady neighbor came over to chat and she asked about that resevoir after noticing it.
He kept a straight face and told her it was a new feature from VW designed to cook eggs from engine heat while on a trip. Just raise the hood, pop an egg out, and voila, hard boiled. He also told her there an optional salt and pepper shaker holder for the dashboard.
She thought that was one of the greatest ideas ever…
