Block sensor

2002 Subaru Outback Sp. w/ 65k. Check engine light went on, took to auto zone for reading and said block sensor replacement. How serious is this and how much $$$? Guy at auto zone said pretty common for subarus.

I Hope you mean ‘knock sensor’ This is a simple sensor screwed into the side of the engine block, and sends a signal to the computer if it senses knocking and pinging. This should be a simple remove and replace. They are typically mounted so that there is no danger of fluids leaking or major dis-assembly required.

Oops, yes, knock.
