Best way to keep mice out of my car?

Hey all—

First time posting, but I’ve been dealing with mice for years now, and I’m losing my mind. I’ve tried everything … peppermint oil, traps, soap bars. Wanted to reach out cus a buddy of mine said he’s been using this thing called a Box-Kat for a couple of years with no issues.

But it’s a little more expensive than I was planning for … hoping for a second opinion before I forked over the cash on another lost cause.

Anyone give it a go before?

Thanks in advance.

Home and garden centers sell products such as this.

We use this stuff in a pole barn where classic vehicles, hot rods, seasonal vehicles and equipment are stored over the seasons.

Never a sign of any varmints in the years of use.

Appreciate it — you feel like it actually lasts 30 days or do you reapply more often?

The owner of the pole barn says they apply it once a month.

I hope it’s not this bad

Do you park your car underneath a tree, or perhaps near some bushes?

… and/or do you ever leave food (or even crumbs) in the car?
Any food or food residue can attract rodents.

I didn’t flag it, but I think this is a spam post.

It may be just that

I clicked on that link, and the products range from $221 to $530

I have a pretty hard time believing op’s buddy is spending that much money to solve a rat problem

Yep, spam, new poster, odd link for expensive unknown product. I flagged it. OP, if I’m wrong, just remove the link.

Happily removed link — sorry if that’s how it came across!

So, do any of those things apply to you . . . park under tree, park next to bushes, etc.?

Oh, and one more thing . . . where is the problem?

Inside the cab?

Engine bay?

Thanks

Was a legit question … price was main reason I was asking.

I’ve got my CRX in a detached garage. It’s backed up against a wooded area. I fill every hole/gap I can find. Was fine for the last two winters but found the beginnings (or remnants) of a nest in the engine bay last month. So far … wires seem to be fine, but I had chewed wires about five years ago and want nothing to do with that again.

Yep, just sprayed that stuff around the house yesterday. Had to be careful not to hit the duck sitting on her nest though. Can’t prove a negative but no problem here with monthly spraying.

Thanks. I didn’t just b/c I figured others hadn’t before me. Didn’t want to be hasty so figured it could be something of a “group decision” before I made a post go invisible.

Of course, the OP is free to come back to defend themselves…

OK this may seem silly but why don’t you simply drive the car regularly?
Mice don’t nest in a mobile home.

In the temporary alterative, a bag of mothballs nay do the trick

40 years ago after a one or two week vacation, came back and found a nest in the air cleaner of the car sitting in the sealed up garage. Driven regularly. Cut the grass regularly. Don’t stack fire wood anywhere near. Even so I’ve run them over before in the back. Wish I could cut the neighbors weeds.

A cat helps a lot. You can usually get one for free, but you have to feed it enough to keep it around.

You get a pet to love and be part of the family

Not only that, not all cats are mousers.

A mouser cat is a cat that is specifically kept for hunting rodents, such as mice. These cats are often used in barns or warehouses to control pest populations and may not be suitable as typical indoor pets due to their independent nature.
