Best day for a mechanic?

This might be a silly question but I was wondering what day or days are best to have a mechanic do his work? I’m assuming weekends are out. Does it really matter if it’s on a Monday after a weekend? Or a Friday before a weekend? Thanks.

For me every day was the same but rushing me made any day a bad day.

Never mattered to me, you either take pride in your work or you don’t, the day of the week doesn’t change that…

Yep, any day that a shop prioritizes speed over quality has the potential to be a bad day.

There’s an old saying, “Do you want it done cheap, fast or correctly? Choose one.”

Don’t know about all parts of the US but here in N.E. Oklahoma you are lucky to get a shop appointment the same week as you ask for one . I would not even worry about what day of the week my vehicle was fixed .

Yes, I think it was a silly question.

Want it to be a ‘good day’? Call and make an appointment, don’t just drive up.

The triangle of automotive repair, pick the 2 you want…

You can have it: (pick A,B or C)
A) good and fast but not cheap
B) good and cheap but not fast
C) fast and cheap but not good

I doubt it makes much difference for the shop staff, but as a customer I tried to make an appt early in the week. I don’t think it affected the quality of the work, but the staff seemed to have a little more time to answer questions and the job tended to take less time to complete. Established customer’s known to be planning to leave town on a family holiday Saturday morning, they probably get priority in the shop on Thursday and Friday.

If you know when payday happens, don’t schedule for the day after. That’s usually when workers don’t show up. It’s a good day if you are looking for a job.
I looked at the help in a bicycle shop with Friday payday and my impression was that he wasn’t the type to show up if he had money in his pocket, so I went in on Saturday just after opening time. With my application already there on Tuesday I was hired immediately.
The only surprise was that you had to learn about fabric. Knowledge of GoreTex, acrylic, spandex and polyester as well as a few others really help to sell clothing.
My qualifications? I show up and don’t break anything expensive.

Good for you. I presume by "bike’ you mean bicycle. The bicycle shop I use does seem to stock a lot of spandex … lol … I think it was film director Woody Allen who said he’s found that “Success in life is 90% just showing up” … lol … there’s a lot of truth to that though…

Perpetuating stereotypes, are we . . . ?!

I wouldn’t want customers that think so poorly of me

Mom’s Favorite shop will have her oil changed and the inspection done in about 45min while she works the crossword. Usually makes the appt mid week when possible, Just has to fit it in with all her volunteer duties but it’s only 1-2X a year. She’s been a customer since 1993 when they were 1/3 the size and just getting started. As the dealer started to play games they became her 2nd opinion shop and later the only place for service. Only used the dealer because they were close to work. These guys have spent the last 30+yrs asking what more they can do, and they’ve added a shuttle service and customer lounge.

Not as fancy as the dealership but the pricing is very fair and they’ve ruined us for other shops. Only downside is they can be booked a few weeks in advance but thankfully we rarely have an emergency need these days.

Yes, that is an excellent time for the mechanic to be looking for another job, cause he/she would not be working for me much longer missing days like that consistently
If a mechanic is not reliable, then neither will their work be most of the time…

For many years myself and one other mechanic kept busy in a 6 bay shop with 2 lifts. As a rule there was at least 1 major tear down in process. There was never a day that the floor was cleared at quitting time. Fleet business made up +/- 50%, about 180 vehicles. Needless to say the situation wouldn’t seem normal to most. It was a great business though.

Wife was leaving town at 8 Saturday morning. I showed up at th3 tire shop at 7 and the owner was just rolling in to open at 8. Fixed my tire and wife was on the road by 8. A month later I bought $1200 worth of tires. It’s a two way street.
