The battery in my truck is over 10 years old and still cranks the engine w/no problem. I think it is b/c I don’t use the truck too much. The battery in my Corolla rarely lasts more than 5-6 years.
Be careful if you use baking soda as a cleaning aid that the soda solution doesn’t find its way into the battery via the caps. It will neutralize the acid in the battery. I’m pretty sure I shortened the life of a car battery one time by forgetting to tighten the caps before cleaning it with baking soda. I’ve given up on the soda cleaning technique b/c of that, and just use plain water and a stiff brush, followed by cleaning the terminals and connectors with a terminal cleaning tool.
