As a moderator for that site, I can tell you that the amount of misinformation on Nextdoor is staggering.
Actual being the operative word there.
0W20 synthetic versus 5w30 traditional might be a good comparison as well. The synthetic will probably win.
Here is a more neutral explanation of the oil viscosity topic from The Car Care Nut: https://www. youtube.com/watch?v=MgTcYMEQwP0&t=349 (remove the space after the first .) He even mentions “That one AI video” at 10m56s.
If traditional 5w20 gets you to 300k miles but 10w30 gets you to 400k miles, for most people it doesn’t matter. Most cars don’t make it that far. With synthetic oil, the difference would be less. Also, oil filter performance is more important with the thinner film found on thinner oil. 20 weight will be less tolerant of a cheap filter. And of course there is the engine itself, the tolerances of the particular engine.
More videos from ONLY CARS Nut: https://www. youtube.com/watch?v=1fBRd8gxCts https://www. youtube.com/watch?v=qLAli4gb4kc . Again remove the space, I don’t like how the forum generates previews. I watched the second video about the insert to use 0w40 oil, but I couldn’t find anything about that regarding the recall. Is ONLY CARS making stuff up? Here are some recall related links: https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/2024/RCRIT-24V381-1773.pdf https://www.nhtsa.gov/?nhtsaId=24V381000 . If they’re lying and are trying to make some sensationalized video about how 0W20 will make your engine blow up I’d really like to know. All I am saying is that 0w20 causes a bit more engine wear than 0w30 synthetic, and with engines lasting as long as they do, it doesn’t matter most of the time, but it probably would matter more for the people in the neglect category who don’t change their oil on time.
I think it was on ND. I know it’s dumb but sometimes I just can’t help my self.
