2009 Kia Rio5 - Best tire pressure?

Tyre pressure to use ..potholes etc

Welcome, your Ask Someone question has been redirected to Car Talk…

Couple places you can find the proper tire pressure for your vehicle, one is in the vehicles owners manual, the other is on the door jam or edge of door or somewhere in that general area for your vehicle (sometimes the inside of the gas door)… But I think it is 30-32 psi depending on tire size for your vehicle..

Do not go by the max pressure on the side of the tire…

Thank you that was recommended to me previously 23 all around

I really hope you meant 32psi and not 23psi…

@Robweaver It seems that you are not in the USofA where this forum is based because you use tyre instead if tire. Your location might not use PSI but Kpa or Bar. Either way that number 23 might not be correct. A good local tire shop will inflate to the proper pressure and also show you the drivers door plaque that has the info you want.

I’ll point out that this measurement is “cold”, meaning at the coldest part of the day, which is early morning, before the car has been driven. If the car is kept in a garage, you need to add 1 PSI for each 10 F difference between the outside temperature and the garage temperature.

In case the OP is not aware of it, running his tires with just 23 psi drastically increases the flexing of the tires’ sidewall, and can easily lead to blowouts. That dangerous situation is in addition to the more obvious fact that the vehicle’s handling is seriously compromised by that low tire pressure. Additionally, his gas mileage will be lower than it should be.

That’s an understatement. 32psi is something like 200+ Kpa and only a little over 2 Bar. I’ll go with the typo where 23 was supposed to be 32psi. The only time you’d run as low as the 20s would be if you’re going to drive in the sand - and then it’s a soft surface and you’re not likely at anything like highway speeds. (Recreationally speaking).

And drag racing.

If someone wanted to do bracket racing they could use the Kia. I think they’d get a 1/8th mile head start on a 1/4 mile track. I was thinking more about real drag racing where the pressure is under 12 psi, as shown below.
