Antifreeze

Should I change the antifreeze in my 2003 Saturn Ion? It has the green color antifreeze and the oil change place tells me it’s the wrong kind. They tested it and it protects to -10 degrees

If it is original (2003) I would say YES. Check the owner’s manual and see if it list a service schedule for the antifreeze. I figure five years or what is in the owner’s manual which ever comes first.

-10 is not that good. A proper 50/50 antifreeze mix should protect lower than that. More like -30 or -35.

I’d drain, flush, and refill the cooling system, but not at an “oil change place.”

Your Saturn may not have come with green antifreeze, but it’s not “the wrong kind.” You can use the green as long as you don’t mix it with another type.
