An impending shortage of synthetic motor oil?

Just in time inventory works just fine until there is a little disruption in the system. You always have to plan for a fire, weather event, strike, etc. causing a problem. That’s the beauty of a capitalistic system though with everyone looking to find alternatives for their own survival.

Solution: Purchase an EV, problem solved!

Which is not a good solution for many of us.

Or, buy a PHEV, as I did. I typically drive 900-1400 miles on 6-7 gallons of gas, and the engine runs so rarely that I have decided that the mfr’s 12 month oil change regimen is safe.

Agree entirely, there is a place for all propulsion systems.I own an EV btw here in Australia.

Welcome to the forum. I own an EV and it does make sense for a lot of people. I can add about 65 miles of range to my Tesla Model 3 overnight on a 110V line. I’m retired and don’t have a daily commute, but if I did, a 65 mile daily round trip would be easy. Even an 80 mile round trip would be possible with a full home recharge over the weekend. This wouldn’t work for everyone. Some have longer commutes, others don’t have charging capabilities at home. Commercial charging stations used to be unreliable, but are for the most part reliable now.

They are not for everyone .I looked @ a Model 3, but the egress & ingress was a deal breaker, wife had trouble getting in & out, far, far to low,the ‘Y’ I just find plain ugly unfortunately.Looked at a BYD Sealion 7, same issues, but very nice cars.Ended up with a Renault Megane E-Tech,fantastic chassis on them, & very good quality aswell, cannot complain. But then you have to invest in a wall charger, which is fine,I have yet to use a public charger, like you I am retired as well.

There is more petroleum produced the North America than is used here. In a situation of real shortage the federal government could limit or ban exports, and we would have plenty, but that’s extreme. Right now North American producers are having a great profit year, because the cost to produce hasn’t risen much, but the world price of petroleum has because of shortages elsewhere.

It’s too fragile for most companies to accept the risk. Great idea, not so good in practice. In reality, most larger corporations that push this on their suppliers just move the inventory down the chain. They won’t tolerate disruptions so someone has to stock the goods. There’s really no free lunch. It’s reflected in the costs they pay but it looks great on paper and to their management and stockholders…

What happened to White and Stanley? With “clean coal” I thought they would be back:rofl:

No shortage here. All you want on the shelf. Picked up a couple jugs anyway fir a years supply.

As long as Tesla is associated with Elon Musk, I’ll not be buying one of their products

No thank you

For a few years, I’ve been seeing some of these stickers on Teslas.

More recently, I’ve seen a couple of these stickers.

I see these all the time

The one I find particularly disingenuous is the top one, the one that says “I bought this before I knew Elon was crazy.” . . . it’s ALWAYS on Teslas built long after Elon Musk revealed his extremely anti-social and violent behavior and statements, long before he “worked” at D O G E

He demonstrated himself to be a first-rate _______ many years ago. Remember the incident where kids were stuck in a cave and he viciously attacked people volunteering to help rescue the kids, going so far as to publicly call one of them a P E D O P H I L E, basically destroying his reputation . . . and there was no validity to it, afaik

I got a bumper magnet when people were vandalizing Teslas. It says " bought when he was just quirky".

There was no validity to his hurtful claim. He certainly must have very good lawyers, since he didn’t have to pay-out any money as a result of his libelous statements.

I gave up bumper stickers 50 years ago. Like my journalism teacher told us, no one cares what you think. I don’t like Mary either but not like she’s out there welding them together.

Okay, I give up. Not going to reread all the posts. Of which Mary do you speak?

Bing “has a thing” about Mary Barra, the GM CEO.

I don’t know that I have a “thing” for her, I just think she wasted billions that may result in the demise of the company. Should have spent some on solving the engine problems, but that wouldn’t get magazine articles.
