A Spark in the Kia Reo coming from the belt

,

A spark coming from the belt that runs the alternater, its my girlfriends car and you can hear it from inside the car. I had her start the car and i could c it coming from the belt, the spark occurs not only in just one spot but comes from all over the belt, The dealership replaced the belt but it still does it…

I’d like to see that. Is there anyway you can include a video? The first thing that you need to do is to remove, or have the belt removed, and check each individual pulley. Make sure everything spins freely and I mean everything. A pulley that’s seized up can cause static electricity on a rubber drive belt and I think that’s what’s going on here.

You’re describing what happens with a Van Degraaf generator.

When a rubber belt spins on a pulley it can build a static charge.

I would be looking for a poor ground causing this static discharge.

Poor ground was the first thing that came to my mind too.
And I’m thinking alternator ground. The alternator should be case grounded via the mounting hardware, and then via the engine’s ground strap(s). Check those out.
